Dear AMVETS Family and Friends,

Last night (Thursday, July 23, 2026) the national leadership from AMVETS, the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary, and Sons of AMVETS came together with members from across the United States for a virtual town hall meeting to learn about and discuss the Take Care of America's Veterans Act, one of the most comprehensive veterans' bills Congress has ever considered.

At its core, the TCAVA is about keeping promises. More than 60 bipartisan provisions were brought together in one bill to deliver long-overdue victories for veterans, surviving spouses, caregivers, military families, and future generations who have all sacrificed in service to our nation.

This bill would – if passed – benefit some 32 million people nationwide.

We know there has been a lot of discussion surrounding this legislation. Last night, we explored the bill in its entirety and focused on what it actually delivers. We then answered every question posed.

It is with sadness to inform you of the passing of Past National President Dorothy (Bussard) Lenhart on July 3, 2026. A life member of Middletown, Maryland Auxiliary #9, Dottie was National President in 1973-1974. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace.
