Due to the emergent Parvo outbreak at BARCS, we will be waiving adoption fees for all adult dogs until next Friday, June 12. We are working closely with our sister shelter and animal control to assist in this unfortunate situation, and every moment counts as we are already at capacity and will need to increase our intake. I’m a little emotional as I post this. Not ECO related but some parent advice-cherish all those little, big, annoying, sad, happy moments with your kiddos. It goes by in a blink of an eye…but grateful that your little ones bring me that joy everyday! Congrats to our son Braxton and Class of 2026 whose many friends grew up with ECO and our volunteers and interns! Carpe Diem!

To the supporters of this petition,

I've been following the story of the Severna Park fox closely on our community pages, and like so many of you, I find it deeply heartbreaking.

I want to be upfront about where I sit in this process: I serve in the legislature, not in the Governor's office, so I cannot direct the agencies handling the active rescue effort. What I can do — and what I am committing to do — is push for stronger penalties and tighter restrictions on the size and use of these traps in residential areas.

I have also asked the Maryland DNR for regular updates on the effort to locate and rescue the remaining foxes, and I will continue to press for transparency on their progress. So far, the DNR has shared that they have been unsuccessful in locating and rescuing the fox, though we have had information of at least one kit who has succumbed to malnutrition and the elements.

Beyond this case, I am paying close attention to broader patterns of cruelty against animals — including recent federal decisions on cyanide bombs — and I am committed to making sure Maryland does not look the other way.
