To infinity and beyond!🚀 With the help of folks from our office, kids at 4-H Cloverbud Camp made Mr. and Mrs. Potato Heads that grow hair! With soil and grass seeds wrapped in pantyhose, these little creations should grow a green wig within a few days time. Thank you to Ohio State - Holmes County 4-H for letting us in on the fun!

Holmes SWCD had barrels of fun yesterday at our Rain Barrel Workshop! Participants installed spigots on 55 gallon barrels that they will connect to their downspout at home in order to collect rainwater🌧. The mineral-rich water that fills these barrels is not only perfect for watering your plants, but it's free! If you missed this year's workshop, don't worry! We'll have another next year that may even involve painting! If you want more information on rain barrels, feel free to give us a call at (330) 674-2811.

Brown's Lake Bog in Shreve shared its beauty and splendor with the Ladies of the Land at last Thursday's event. College of Wooster professor, Greg Wiles and his assistant Li Winner guided the ladies on a hike through the bog discussing its formation by glaciers and its many carnivorous plants. Thank you Greg and Li for sharing your passion for the bog with us.

Poison Hemlock is a highly toxic, invasive member of the carrot family and it can be found all over Holmes and surrounding counties. It is often mistaken with other common plants like Queen Anne's Lace, Goutweed, Common Yarrow, Elderberry, Giant Hogweed, and Wild Parsnip. One of your best defenses against Poison Hemlock is to educate yourself on how to identify it, knowing the symptoms of it's poisoning, and learning how to eliminate and prevent it from growing on your property. Here is some great information to get you started.

Our summer interns have been busy as bees 🐝converting the Main Street Bank parking strip on Clinton Street into a pollinators paradise. Not even the rain could keep them from planting over 150 native perennials and mulching the 110' space. Annual flowers will also be added this year to give a pop of color while the perennials are taking root. Make sure to drive by often and watch how the landscape changes. Thank you to Main Street Bank, Cloverland Greenhouse, and McVicker Property Maintenance for your amazing support of this project. You made our pollinator vision a reality. 🦋
