A bite into STEM! 🍎

4-H Educator Ella Lorentz spent a few days with the West Holmes Elementary 1st graders exploring the science behind one of fall’s favorite fruits, apples!

More than 120 students and 45 pounds of apples took part in an apple science adventure. Students used their five senses to taste test different apples, explored the science of oxidation, and discovered how “superhero” capes can help protect cut apples from turning brown.

Fun fact, lemon juice isn’t the only super hero to keep them from turning brown, milk also works, too!

Knolmes Camp Counselor forms are DUE this Wednesday, September 30th!

We know you’re just as excited for camp as we are, and we are VERY excited to announce that camp counselor applications for 2027 Knolmes 4-H Camp are open now through September 30th! Counselors must be at least 14 years of age by June 5th, 2027, but no prior camping experience is required. Counselors will have the opportunity to plan, put on, and participate in 2027 Knolmes 4-H Camp held at 4-H Camp Ohio while working as part of a dynamic team. Training meetings are held in Loudonville leading up to the start of camp, and interviews will take place on October 28th in Knox County. Applications can be found at https://go.osu.edu/2027knolmescampcounselor, and questions can be directed to Jackie Weisenfelder at [email protected]. Pack your bags, we’re going camping!
