A little icing. A lot of imagination. And a whole lot of CHEER!

Meet our next celebrity judge: Lauren Jacobs, the creative heart behind The Cheerful Baker. If you’ve ever looked at a decorated cookie and wondered, “How did someone make THAT?”—Lauren is your kind of person.

A competitor on Food Network’s Christmas Cookie Challenge, Lauren turns cookies into little works of art and shares that joy through her decorating classes and The Cheerful Box. She’s not just creating beautiful things; she’s helping other bakers find the confidence to create them, too.

That blend of cookie artistry and genuine encouragement is exactly why we’re thrilled to welcome her to the celebrity judge panel for Kentucky’s 9th Annual Gingerbread House Competition at Mustard Seed Hill.

Help us give Lauren a cheerful welcome! What detail would you spend HOURS perfecting: the icing, the windows or the tiny decorations?

Christmas Eve came with a little chaos 🎅🍬

Kim Ellis and Sue Eisminger took 1st Place in the Family Category at Kentucky’s Gingerbread Competition, presented by Team Kentucky Tourism, with their entry, “Christmas Eve Chaos.”

Their scene captured Santa and his all-star crew getting ready for the big night, with all the playful energy you would expect right before Christmas Eve takeoff. It was cheerful, busy, and full of personality.

This was Sue and Kim’s first year participating, and they were shocked to win. They also arrived in matching “gingerbread gals” sweatshirts, which made their first-place moment even sweeter.

A special thank you to our guest judges, Chef Damaris Phillips, Martine's Pastries and Kytastebuds for lending their eye for detail and festive spirit to last year’s gingerbread competition.

Santa found his Appalachian retreat 🔥🏔️

Seriously Sweet with Amy Hicks and Cookie Snack Attack took 1st Place in the Adult Category at Kentucky’s Gingerbread Competition, presented by Team Kentucky Tourism with her entry, “Santa’s Appalachian Fireside Retreat.”

Her mountain cabin felt like a quiet Christmas story tucked away in the woods, with Santa resting by the fire and his pup, Jingles, nearby. The piece held its shape beautifully through the length of the event and gave guests so many details to discover.

This was Amy’s first year entering the competition, which made the win even more impressive. Her design was thoughtful, sturdy, and full of storytelling from the start.

A special thank you to our guest judges, Chef Damaris Phillips and Kytastebuds for lending their eye for detail and festive spirit to last year’s gingerbread competition.

A little trip down Gingerbread Street 🇫🇷🍬

Katie Nelson Fine Art took 1st Place in the Civic + Business Category at Kentucky’s Gingerbread Competition, presented by Team Kentucky Tourism with her entry, “Rue du pain d’épice (Gingerbread Street).”

Her French-inspired scene gave guests a charming walk through Gingerbread Street, where a flower shop, bridal moment, and favorite pastry all found their place. It felt delicate and imaginative, with the kind of detail that rewarded a closer look.

Katie has placed first every year she has participated, and year after year, she has continued to level up her work. As a wedding painter, she brought an artist’s eye to the scene in such a fitting way.

A special thank you to our guest judges, Chef Damaris Phillips, Martine's Pastries, and Kytastebuds for lending their eye for detail and festive spirit to last year’s gingerbread competition.

Help us celebrate Katie and another beautiful first-place finish. ✨
