Brad Hjerpe has accepted the position of interim Safety Officer for Millersburg RC Modelers. Thank you to Jason Harmon, who previously served in this position. Jason has personal matters to attend to and has expressed his support for the change.

Brad is a long time member of Millersburg RC, a former Vice President, and is currently serving as our Event Coordinator. The combined functions of Event Coordinator and Safety Officer naturally compliment each other. Please join me in welcoming Brad to his new role with Millersburg RC.

One of Brad’s first official duties will be to fulfill the AMA’s requirement for an annual safety briefing for all members.

From the President

Spring weather has not been kind to our hobby. Cold temperatures, overcast skies, and gusty winds have yielded disappointingly few good flying days. But cheer up! Good weather is close at hand. And Millersburg RC is poised for an outstanding 2026 flying season.

• Our land lease is locked in, at a fixed rate, for the next 10 years.
• The relationship with our landlord has never been better.
• The Town of Millersburg has assured us that the Hawpatch Bicycle Trail will not interfere with our activities.
• The club’s treasury is in excellent order.
• Membership is up and we have programs in place to continue this trend.
• The field has been rolled, and we have substantially reduced our w**d control cost.
• Our mowing equipment has been thoroughly serviced and is in top notch condition.
• Plans for the “Millersburg & Friends” fun-fly are on track for August 22, 2026.

We have a great deal to look forward to in the upcoming flying season. Please join me in expressing our sincere appreciation for those members that helped make all this happen.

From the President

Operating Expenses
Operating expenses for the calendar year 2026 are estimated to be several thousand dollars. This is made up of lease payments, AMA fees, field, and equipment maintenance to name a few. We must continually consider expense reductions. We have recently negotiated a $500 decrease for our w**d and feed expense. This is significant.

Income
Dues income year to date for the club is less than half of our operating expenses. Other income sources such as the annual ‘Millersburg RC & Friends’ fun fly, and new membership can help. Individual member donations are a major component to balancing our books. Our sincere thanks to those who have generously helped us out.

Membership
New membership can come from a variety of sources. Our ‘Learn to Fly Free’ campaign will continue this year. Pilots who attend the annual fun fly are another source. Our guest pilot policy brings new pilots to our flying site as well.

We encourage all current members to invite guest pilots to our outstanding flying site. Let’s show off our stuff. Our only requirement for guest pilots is that they are accompanied by a Millersburg RC member and are a current member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics. AMA membership is must.

Let’s also remember that our flying site is the result of the financial and volunteer effort of our membership. If our guests like what they see and want to come on a regular basis they should join. This can be as a regular, associate, or youth member.

Moving Forward
1. To enhance flying site security a new lock has been installed at our entrance gate with a a new code.
2. Physical ID cards have been created for each current member and will be distributed over the next few weeks. It is important that each member have his Millersburg RC ID and AMA Membership card when flying at Eby Field.
3. Let’s all pitch in with volunteer field maintenance (mowing), the annual fun fly, and our Learn to Fly Free campaign.

After serious consideration the GeoTex runway committee, with my complete support, has decided to terminate the GeoTex runway project.

As many of you are aware, we experienced several setbacks during the project. The most recent being the decision to have the runway professionally installed. One of the contractors we approached withdrew his bid for the job and the second submitted a quote for $8,250.

In its entirety, the project became complicated, impractical, and too costly. The best option for Millersburg RC and its membership was to abandon the project.

On behalf of Millersburg RC allow me to express our genuine appreciation for those who participated.

It’s time to move on. Spring has finally arrived. Let’s dust off our stuff and have some fun.

PRESS RELEASE
Joint Venture With the Town of Millersburg

April 1, 2026 Millersburg RC Modelers and the Town of Millersburg have announced the joint venture to bring both organizations into the 21st century.

Construction of the Millersburg International Airport will begin in the spring of 2027 in conjunction with the Hawpatch Bicycle Trail. Simultaneously, Millersburg RC Modelers will pave its’ entire flying site.
