REQUEST: Jett-Jett's 2nd Chance Nursery, Inc. needs old bath towels. If anyone has some to donate and lives in Wilkes County, NC, we sure would appreciate it! I'm stopping at local thrift stores, but if you find some locally hit me up!
Note: We do not need hand towels....just the larger bath towels.
Thank you in advance! Amy Jo

Grover enjoys taking a mid-day nap under the canopy. He's doing great so far! We haven't seen any seizure activity, thanks to the Omeprazole. `Grover (aka: FlufferNutter) is a fun, active, sweet, puppy.

TOOTSIE update!

We had good news today. Dr. Cogar said T***sie IS a good candidate for BOAS surgery. Intubation should not be a problem, even with her jaw and with the proper preop blood work there should be little to no concern about her surviving anesthesia.

More good news -- T***sie isn't even close to the 'worst cases' he has fixed in his years of practice. In fact, he said that an argument could be made FOR having the surgery now and an argument could be made for NOT having the surgery now. T***sie's condition isn't dire and she struggles less than other dogs that require BOAS surgery.

With her skeletal issues (spine curvature, ataxia of the hind quarters, extreme protruding lower jaw), the big question is "Is T***sie's breathing issue caused by excess soft palate tissue (or other nearby tissue) or is it due to her body structure....or is it a combination of both?"

If we choose to schedule surgery, they can trim what needs to be trimmed and that will (hopefully) give her some relief. The recovery will be an overnight stay, 2 weeks of "quiet and calm" and soft food. This is a "one and done" surgery. The risk is that she is one of the extremely rare cases that experiences swelling of the throat tissue and a tracheotomy (at the cost of $8k - $10k) is needed until the swelling goes down. The estimated cost of BOAS surgery is between $4,500 - $5,000. If we opt for surgery, funds will definitely have to be raised.

If we choose to NOT do surgery, then we just play it by ear.

So that is where we are. I welcome polite opinions, especially those based in prior experience. :)

Tomorrow morning our sweet T***sie has her consultation with Dr. Cogar at Carolina Veterinary Specialists. Fingers and toes crossed that there is a way to help her breathe better. Prayers please that T***s is a good candidate for some type of relief.

Sad update to share about Momma Kansas. After noticing she wasn't acting right, I ran her to the ER clinic at 2am this morning. Diagnostics showed she had a ruptured uterus and was fighting sepsis. It was the veterinarian's professional opinion that she would not survive anesthesia and under the severity of the medical circumstances, there would not be enough time to get to the puppies via c-section. The difficult decision was made to let Kansas and her puppies cross over peacefully. 💔

Each week we raise money for our programs via our weekly auction of donated treasures! We got a call for help from our friends at Pawfect Match Rescue and Rehabilitation about Sophie and we had to help! Sophie is 5 weeks old and was accidentally run over by her owner last weekend. She suffered bruised lungs, a severe degloved leg and foot, and a massive hernia. She received a life-saving blood transfusion and had life-saving surgicals yesterday to repair the hernia. She came through like a champion and is full of kisses and love! Though we do have quite a few Pet O2 Mask Kit requests and our community pet food obligations, a big portion of the proceeds will be going to her care! Thanks so much everyone. Most of the time I end up with special needs (medical) puppies that have been abandoned by their breeders/owners at animal shelters, that have been brought to veterinary clinics for euthanasia, or simply "dumped" and left to fend for themselves.

However, the last 2 special needs dogs that were brought (separately) into Jett-Jett's were relinquished out of love. Knowing these 2 needed more than what they could give, both parties did what was right for each dog. Neither pup had been abused or mistreated....both were obviously loved and cared for. How refreshing!!

You have already met our sweet T***sie, but I'll share her picture here again because she's just too beautiful NOT to share. If you recall, T***sie has severe breathing issues and has an appointment with a specialist on June 4th to see if there are any viable options to help her breathe. Fingers crossed for T***s!!

And here is our newest addition. His name is Grover and he is an 11-week old goldendoodle. A wonderful couple who are experienced with dog rescue saw this baby on the side of a busy road. Long story short, they were able to get the breeder to sign Grover over to them, but they soon found out Grover has hydrocephalus. They spared no expense and even went to a neurologist and had an MRI done to determine how severe his case is. Sadly, his is a very severe case of hydrocephalus. The neurologist just happened to be 'our' neurologist and she suggested that if it was too much for them to properly handle, that perhaps Jett-Jett's would be the perfect place for him. This couple reached out to me, asked all the right questions, and asked if we had room for Grover.

Grover is now with us and my goodness he is a pistol! He may have a severe case of hydrocephalus, but he is "all puppy". He has vision issues, but has adapted well. He isn't a big eater so we're working on that. He is a joy and he brings a refreshing spurt of energy to our pack of misfits. Overall, for now he is doing well. Of course this may change as his body grows, but we will continue to treat him proactively and tackle whatever comes his way.

Please welcome Grover to Jett-Jett's 2nd Chance Nursery!
