Bike Walk Baldwin Getting more people on bicycles or walking more often.

About Bike Walk Baldwin...

After 10 years of events, rides and fun times, the Bicycling Club of Milledgeville disbanded as a club but remains a Facebook gathering place for ride meetups and friendly bike-related conversation. Stepping in to assume the BCM’s former advocacy role in Milledgeville-Baldwin County, we proudly announce “Bike Walk Baldwin/ BWB,” a new bike/ ped 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicat

ed to getting more people on bicycles or walking more often. Our goal with Bike Walk Baldwin is to hire a part-time employee whose efforts can be dedicated to making our community a better place to bike, walk and run. With an actual staff position, we will be able to create more and BETTER events and seek out more funding opportunities for programs and infrastructure improvements through grant applications. To help get this new position established and continue the great work started by the Bicycling Club of Milledgeville, we’re rolling out a “Friends of Bike Walk Baldwin” giving campaign. BWB will partner with Live Healthy Baldwin and others to provide quality outdoor events and activities to provide encouragement for bicycling and walking. Your show of Friendship will not only help fund these projects but will give you these great benefits:

$25/ Bronze level: $10 off entry fees for 2 events annually
$50/ Silver level: $10 off entry fees for 4 events annually
$100/ Gold level: $10 off entry fees for 4 events annually and a BWB T shirt
$500/ Platinum level: $10 off entry fees for 6 events annually, a BWB T shirt and BWB custom jersey

Bike Walk Baldwin is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, making your contributions of support 100% tax deductible. For more information on how you can support or volunteer, email: [email protected] or call: 478-451-9601.

We are having a work party at Walter B Williams on Saturday, June 15th at 9am. We will be working to clear roots, canopy and small trees on the first 3.5 miles of trail that has been machine cut. Bring loppers, axes and small saws (the the strong backs and arms to work them). We will meet in the parking area between the baseball fields and the pond, by the walking track.

We’re pulling together one last trail work party for 2023 on this Friday, starting at 10am at Walter B Williams park. My goal is to get all the rest of the trail corridor cleared and ready for equipment to start moving dirt. So, bring your leaf blowers, small chain saws, powered trimmers, etc and let's end the year with some major progress. We will meet up in the parking lot between the pond and the baseball fields.

What a fun afternoon we had on Thursday with the lower school mountain bike program. 10, 1st through 5th graders came out and braved the cold to ride around the Greenway and explore Fishing Creek Community Trail. It was so cool finally riding on the paved trail along Fishing Creek all the way to Flagg Chapel.

The message below is from long time Bike Walk Baldwin supporter, Stace Rondeau. Any who can donate to help this fellow cyclist out are greatly appreciated.

My name is Stace Rondeau, I was the bike shop manager at REI and use to ride lots of the charity rides throughout the southern states area, including yours. I have a favor to ask and I promise I will be brief with your time.
One of my ex-employees and fellow bike rider (and Ultra Marathoner) Mike Smithson, was involved in a collision with a car last week. He has ridden your bike ride also. He has a broken hip socket, pelvis, and a femoral head fracture. He also has 4 broken ribs, a partially collapsed lung, and a concussion as he was knocked unconscious. He had surgery and they repaired the hip and pelvis with plates and screws. The femur has to heal on its own. He will have to be completely non weight bearing for 3 months. He will not be able to go back to work for AT LEAST 4 months… potentially 6 months or longer.
More bad news, he was a contract employee with limited benefits and he was JUST made permanent at his job where he was due to be active to a full time employee on May 2, 2022, sadly he missed that by 8 days. He will now be out of work with no pay and no disability to supplement income. Additionally, his wife is physically disabled and he was the driver and support for his wife, her Step-mom and for his daughter’s upcoming back surgery.
If it would be possible to mention this on your organizations and ride’s websites, and maybe say a word before the ride tomorrow I would greatly appreciate it, as will the Smithson family. Just think, there are 3 rides tomorrow (4/30) and there should be close to 1000 riders in attendance at these 3 rides. If folks could donate $5 that would be $5000 raised tomorrow alone.
As many of us have had our share of near misses, “There for the grace of God go I” Thank you so much for letting me take up time from your busy schedule. Best of luck tomorrow and all your riders and staff will be in my prayers.

Hey guys! I’m Kelly and I’m trying to raise money for my parents. My … Kelly Smithson needs your support for Help My Dad! He was hit by a car while cycling.
