MILLBURN FILMFEST PREVIEW!
CHASING/FINDING
Submitted by Angela Huang
Writer, Director, and Animator: Angela Huang

Chasing/Finding is a work of experimental tracing-paper animation, which Huang created by filming herself doing movements in the MHS dance room, screenshotting every couple frames, and drawing out each frame with additional elements (e.g. the ripped papers) on two layers to illustrate concept. The figure in the short film wakes lethargically, finds themself chasing after an idealized version of themself – the past, a happy “them” that they have now lost to time – and, in doing so, causes themself to fade away into the background (2nd layer). In contrast, the figure is brought back to the foreground (1st layer), which is symbolic of their present, by an invisible presence that rips the paper. This presence is slowly revealed through helping hands to be the important people around the figure, which they had not seen before but were always there.

EIDOLON
Submitted by Zev Marinoff
Writer, Director, and Animator: Zev Marinoff

Eidolon: 1) A specter or a phantom. 2) An idealized person and/or thing.
Eidolon finds a couple reuniting months after tragedy strikes. The product of both a pandemic and the deterioration of the human spirit, this animated short film captures a moment past mourning and far beyond acceptance - a cul-de-sac of life itself. Starting as a simple feeling and evolving into a lesson of the pains of creation and abandonment, hand-animating Eidolon shaped Zev Marinoff's personal journey across his high school years.

MILLBURN FILMFEST PREVIEW!
STUCK IN THE LOOP*
Submitted by Daniel Lee

Writer, Director, and Cinematographer: Daniel Lee
Cast: Harry Britton, Aidan Jones, Daniel Lee

In Stuck in the Loop, Daniel Lee creates an elaborate metaphor to explore many of the frustrations of living through a pandemic and its attendant lockdowns. The conceit of Stuck in the Loop is that two friends are trapped in a single second of time, forced to relive it indefinitely, searching for a way out. Lee imagined and executed Stuck in the Loop as he was enduring lockdown himself and wanted to use his art to help others grapple with the complicated emotions that the pandemic aroused in all of us.

*Due to mature content that is inappropriate for a family audience, this film cannot be shown at tonight’s FilmFest premiere. The Millburn Education Foundation and the FilmFest judges all wish to celebrate Lee’s accomplishment and creative vision and encourage mature audiences to view this film on the Millburn FilmFest YouTube Channel after April 29.
