Bravo Zulu from the members of Sons of the American Legion Squadron 140 - Millburn, NJ to the Navy on a great win over Army in the annual Army–Navy Game today! A powerful display of tradition, teamwork, and service. 🏈

We look forward to welcoming this historic rivalry back to New Jersey next year as part of a 9/11 remembrance, honoring the lives lost and the service members who answered the call in the days and years that followed. A fitting setting for a game that represents duty, sacrifice, and our nation’s enduring spirit. 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to honor the 2,403 Americans who lost their lives on December 7, 1941, a day that forever changed our nation.

We especially remember Francis Daniel Day, a true Hometown Heroes of Millburn-Short Hills whose courage at Pearl Harbor continues to inspire us.

Francis Daniel Day served aboard the USS Oklahoma (BB-37), one of the battleships tragically struck during the attack. When the first torpedoes hit, the Oklahoma began to capsize rapidly. Amid the chaos, Francis Day took heroic action, helping fellow sailors escape and assisting the crew under devastating conditions. He ultimately gave his life while saving others, an act of extraordinary courage and devotion to his shipmates.

Earlier this year, members of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 140 - Millburn, NJ had the profound honor of visiting Francis Daniel Day’s resting place at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu. There, on behalf of our entire Squadron and community, members placed an American flag at his gravesite as a tribute to his service and sacrifice.

The Squadron also visited the USS Arizona, where we received a Certificate of Flag Presentation for an American flag flown over the Arizona Memorial on this very day, December 7th, last year. That flag now stands as a powerful symbol of remembrance, duty, and unwavering patriotism.

As we reflect on Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, we honor the brave souls who stood in defense of freedom, and we reaffirm our commitment to preserving their memory for future generations. 🇺🇸

As we sit with our families this Thanksgiving, let’s take a moment to keep the two West Virginia National Guard soldiers and their families in our prayers, along with all our brave service members and first responders who stand watch so we can celebrate in peace.

May God protect them, comfort their loved ones, and remind us all of the true meaning of gratitude. 🇺🇸🦃🙏

From all of us at the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 140 - Millburn, NJ, we proudly salute the heroes who have worn our nation’s uniform, past and present.

As Toby Keith reminds us in “American Soldier,”
“I don’t do it for the money, there’s bills that I can’t pay. I don’t do it for the glory, I just do it anyway.”

Today, we honor the men and women who stood ready, not for fame or reward, but for love of country.

Thank you, Veterans, for your courage, your sacrifice, and your unwavering devotion to the ideals of freedom.

You make us proud to be Americans.🇺🇸
