🔦Big news in the nursing community! 🔦

Following the ANA Membership Assembly decision to expand membership to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Hawaiʻi-ANA is considering a bylaw amendment to welcome Hawaiʻi LPNs into our state chapter.

We want to ensure all of our members are informed and have the opportunity to learn more about what this means for our association.

💻Join our leadership team for a virtual informational session and open Q&A to get all the details and share your thoughts before an upcoming vote.

🌺 Member Spotlight: Dr. Holly B. Fontenot 🌺

Please join us in celebrating Holly B. Fontenot, PhD, RN, WHNP-BC, FAAN, FNAP, Associate Dean for Research, Professor, and the endowed Masuda Chair in Women’s Health at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Nursing.

Dr. Fontenot is also a Full Member of the UH Cancer Center. Her research focuses on the prevention of cervical cancer and has received sustained support from federal, foundation, and industry grants for more than a decade.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and a Distinguished Practitioner and Fellow in the National Academy of Practice, Dr. Fontenot is a leader in women’s health research, nursing education, and healthcare innovation. 👏🏽🎉

Please join us in celebrating Miki Miura, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, a dedicated nurse practitioner, mentor, healthcare leader, and advocate for the advancement of nursing.

Dr. Miura serves as the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Hawaiʻi State Liaison and as a clinician at Waiʻanae Coast Comprehensive Health Center and St. Luke’s Clinic Ala Moana. As CEO and Founder of the JANP Project, she champions global nurse practitioner workforce development and cross-border clinical mentorship.

Her leadership in uniting clinicians, modernizing healthcare statutes, and empowering internationally educated nurses has earned her the AANP Hawaiʻi State Award for Excellence and the HAPN Leadership Award. 👏🏽🎉

Hawai‘i-ANA is concerned by efforts to change childhood vaccine recommendations through political directives rather than established scientific and clinical review.

Decades of evidence support the safety and effectiveness of routine childhood immunizations, including the combined MMR vaccine. Research has found no link between vaccines and autism, and delaying or separating vaccines can mean more appointments and longer periods when children are not fully protected.

For Hawai‘i families, timely access to vaccines is especially important. Our nurses will continue advocating for evidence-based public health policy, clear information for families, and the health of our keiki and communities.
