Wayco will be in the community either Friday, June 5th or Monday, June 8th paving a portion of Sunrise Drive, as well as all of Silver, Taft, Lincoln, Harrison and Cleveland Courts. They will also be doing patch paving on Upper Spruce, High Meadow and Bald Hill.

We will establish a detour route from Sunrise Drive to Waterwheel to Stateway and back onto Sunrise Drive for thru traffic. We will also be installing speed humps on Wild Meadow Drive and Sunrise Drive.

Our Maintenance staff will put traffic cones on the new speed humps and install warning signs as soon as possible.

Additionally, throughout the summer, NRS Excavating will be doing pothole and minor road repairs throughout the community.

As always, please be patient and allow our vendors to complete their work safely.

Kind regards,
SLPOA BOD

Happenings: Community Improvements:
● Lake update: The DEP is currently reviewing Pennoni’s final submission, and the permit we have all been waiting for is expected this month. We will notify the community immediately upon receipt. Also, as soon as we get official approval, we will begin to order materials.
● The mailbox project on Sunrise Drive is mostly complete and fully operational. The lights have been installed, and the remaining work includes adding cameras, directional signage, and paving the surrounding area. We appreciate your continued patience and cooperation as we complete these final improvements.
➔ We’d like to recognize Diane Meyerhoff for her dedication and persistence in helping to bring the new mailbox project to completion. Diane has been advocating for mailbox replacement for many years and remained actively involved throughout the entire process, from the early planning stages through final installation. Her commitment, time, and attention to detail played an important role in making this long-awaited improvement a reality for the community. Thanks, Diane!
● Construction is now underway on our new maintenance building. The building itself is expected to go up at the end of May/ beginning of June.
● The deed for the Wild Meadow Road transfer to Sunrise has been filed in the county clerk's office and now officially belongs to Sunrise.

Summer 2026 pool season:
● As mentioned previously, due to a lifeguard shortage, we were not able to attract enough lifeguard applicants to supervise the pool on a daily basis. For this reason, like many local communities, Sunrise will implement a swim at your own risk policy this summer. After consulting carefully with our insurance company, we would like to share the following information:
➔ Kids aged 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older.
➔ Pool Hours: 11AM -7PM / 7 days a week
➔ Special Events: Our insurance company has advised against allowing private parties at the pool while operating under a “swim at your own risk” policy. As a result, we will not be able to host private pool parties this summer. We know that this may affect some families’ summer plans. In past years, we have typically hosted two or three children’s birthday parties each summer; however, due to the insufficient number of lifeguard applicants, we had to make a quick operational change and follow the recommendations provided by our insurance carrier.
➔ Residents who visit the pool will need to sign a 2-sided paper upon entry as we have done on occasion in the past. One side is a swim at your own risk waiver and the other side is a review of pool area rules. At this time we are not sure if this waiver needs to be signed for every visit–we'll find out from our insurance company and let you know.
➔ This summer’s pool staff will include supervisory staff, pool attendants, and concession workers. Many members of our team are returning employees with prior experience and familiarity with their roles.

We are looking forward to a safe and enjoyable summer. See you at the pool!

Community Walking Paths:
● The Board is exploring the idea of sharing community walking paths/routes and would really appreciate some resident input. If you have a favorite walking route in Sunrise — whether it’s a long fitness walk or a short scenic stroll — let Board member Elaine McCarthy know at [email protected]. Your suggestions can help create a list of recommended community walking routes for everyone to enjoy. Maybe you track miles walked or prefer a specific route for a specific reason? We’d love to hear from you. Maybe one will even end up being named after you!

Public Safety: Public Safety can be reached at (570)-618-1758

New feature: Board Member Profile
● Over the next several newsletters, we will be spotlighting each of the seven members of our Board to help the community get to know us better. We are pleased to continue this series by featuring Elaine McCarthy.

Hello! My name is Elaine McCarthy. My family lived in Sunrise Lake during the 1990s and my children tell me that their best childhood memories were made right here in Sunrise. I moved back into the area in 2021 and have enjoyed my return to living in Sunrise for the past five years. I appreciate the quiet natural surroundings we live in and enjoy seeing old friends and meeting new ones. I worked as an educator for the Delaware Valley School District for 26 years and taught at both the Dingman Delaware Elementary and Primary buildings. Many of the families I worked with are Sunrise residents, so I have a bit of history here in the community and feel a strong connection here.

I was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the Sunrise Lake Board this past winter and I have learned a lot about how the community operates. I have found that the current board members work very well together and I hope to continue to serve on behalf of the Sunrise Lake community.

In conclusion, and as a reminder, if you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or concerns, please email or call the office directly at (570) 686-1880 or email the board at [email protected]. We do not monitor social media pages, but we have been told about topics/issues/concerns (and speculations) that have been addressed on Facebook or in private text threads that we could easily address (with accurate info) through a simple phone call or email. Please do not hesitate to reach out!

Sincerely,

The Sunrise Lake Board
Doug Dow, President
Jeannette Gonzalez, Vice President
Ron Hansen, Treasurer
Mike Ryan, Secretary

SUNRISE LAKE RESIDENTS:

If you’d like your house included on the official yard sale list, please let us know! Message THE SUNRISE LAKE EVENTS COMMITTEE page directly with your Name and Address. You do not have to participate both days—just tell us which day(s) and any details you want included.

Let’s make this a great turnout!

Our area is facing a severe lifeguard shortage. Therefore, Sunrise Lake will be instituting a swim at your own risk policy.

We are currently working with our insurance company to finalize all details and remain in state compliance.

The pool will continue to be supervised by adult pool monitors, concession workers and their supervisors.

Many of our staff are returning employees and we are confident that they will continue to maintain the highest standards.

Anyone under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a guardian at least 16 years or older.

As a reminder, only residents in good standing will be allowed to use the pool.

We are looking forward to a fun and safe pool season!

Kind regards,
SLPOA BOD

Pennoni has submitted all required paperwork and plans to the DEP. Pennoni met with the DEP prior to submission just to clarify that everything is in order and all issues have been addressed.

Now it is in the DEP’s hands.

If anyone has wood on their property from the Met-Ed project that does not want it, please feel free to put a sign “free wood” for whomever would like to take it.

As many of you know, yesterday, Doug Dow, Mike Ryan, and Ron Hansen from the SLPOA BOD met with senior representatives from the DEP, along with senior engineers from Pennoni, Dan Hayward, Mark Grochoki from Senator Lisa Baker’s office, and Jeff Weinberger, the project engineer for the contractor, Wayco. This meeting included all key parties involved in moving the project forward.

Here are the key updates:

The DEP has identified three or four remaining, largely “minor” issues within the engineering plans. These items were clearly outlined during the meeting, along with specific guidance on how to address them. Beth Grasso, senior engineer from Pennoni, confirmed that she and her team fully understood the required revisions and have committed to submitting an updated final plan to the DEP within one week.

The DEP indicated that our project is a priority and that we are nearing the end of the approval process. Based on the discussion, they expect to issue the construction permit “no later than the end of May,” assuming the revised plans are submitted as discussed. They also expressed that they are not expecting any further revisions to the plans.

The project requires a specialized concrete piping system that must be custom manufactured. On Monday we will contact vendors to confirm current production and delivery timelines. Once that information is available, we will be in a better position to know when we can start and finish construction.

Due to the significant cost of materials, the Board will not proceed with ordering until formal written approval is received from the DEP.

At this stage, construction is anticipated to begin this fall. Completion will be dependent on material lead times and weather conditions and may extend into early spring 2027 if the job can’t be finished before winter arrives.

The Board remains committed to keeping residents informed with timely and accurate updates as new information becomes available.

Regarding Communication with the DEP:

The DEP mentioned during our meeting that they have recently received an increase in calls from Sunrise residents. While they understand the concern and frustration we feel as a community, they also mentioned that responding to these calls takes time away from working on the project. Mark Grochoki from Senator Baker's team offered to field questions and comments through him instead at the following contact information:

Mark Grochoki
Office of Senator Lisa Baker
[email protected]
570-740-2432

Mark has been a strong advocate for our community and maintains a productive working relationship with the DEP.

We will share further updates as soon as they become available.

Kind regards,
SLPOA BOD
