Friends,

As we head into the weekend… we would love it if you would take a moment to hear from our incredibly strong and resilient neighbors who are living outside in places not meant for human habitation by watching the below video.

None of these men, women, and veterans want to be living outside.

They don’t have a choice.

They are navigating extremely long shelter waitlists and doing the best they can to just survive…

Right now, we have an incredible opportunity.

One of our long-time volunteers has made a $25,000 matching challenge gift.

This means that every dollar you send to Beth-El Center through the following link 🔗 during the remainder of August and September will be matched up to $25,000.. to help us raise a total of $50,000:

Friends,

Vitale is our second guest who just found his new home 🥹.

His story is told below through the beautiful words of Jason Blakeman, our Outreach Navigator:

“Vitale’s story is one of resilience, endurance, and perseverance.

Born in Ukraine, Vitale experienced profound loss at a very young age when he was traumatically separated from both of his parents. He was later adopted by a family in the United States, spending portions of his childhood between the U.S. and Italy. While in Italy, Vitale suffered a traumatic brain injury during a BMX racing accident. The lasting effects of that injury continue to impact his daily life.

In 2020, Vitale experienced another devastating loss when the woman he knew and loved as his mother passed away. As his primary source of support, her death marked a turning point in his life. The circumstances that followed ultimately left Vitale homeless.

After spending two years learning to survive the challenges of homelessness, Vitale made the decision to relocate to the Milford area in 2022, seeking a fresh start and hoping to distance himself from the negative influences that had surrounded him. It was here that he connected with the Beth-El Center, where, for the first time in years, he began to regain a sense of hope.

The journey to stability did not happen overnight. Through consistent outreach, relationship-building, and meeting his most basic daily needs, Beth-El Center staff worked alongside Vitale to help him rebuild his life. Together, they replaced vital identification documents that had been lost during his years of homelessness, connected him with essential services, and provided ongoing support every step of the way. Eventually, those efforts led to a successful match with a permanent housing subsidy, ensuring safe, stable, and sustainable housing along with continued case management.

On July 15, 2026, Vitale received the keys to his own apartment.

Those keys represent far more than access to a place to live. They symbolize the opening of a new chapter—one built on safety, security, dignity, stability, and renewed self-worth. They are a testament to Vitale's perseverance through unimaginable hardship and to the transformative impact that compassionate support and opportunity can have on a person's life.

Today, Vitale is no longer defined by homelessness or adversity. Instead, he is building a future grounded in hope, independence, and the belief that, no matter how difficult the journey, a new beginning is always possible.”

Please join us in celebrating this successful journey alongside Vitale with a heartfelt WELCOME HOME!!!

Friends,

We feel so incredibly blessed to be able to share with you that not one, but TWO guests, have found their homes…

This is Clifford…

A veteran whose story we are sharing below through the words of his incredible Housing First Case Manager, Aleksander Papaluca.

“Clifford Gunn is a man who has embodied the meaning of his last name ‘Gunn’ which means ‘battle’ or ‘War’. Clifford served 8 years in the United States Air Force from 1971 to 1979. The first 4 years of his service occurred during the Vietnam War. During this time frame, Clifford served 18 months in a warzone, risking his life every day so that we could continue to enjoy our own lives safely here in the USA. Eventually, Clifford was honorably discharged and was sent back home.

Although, Clifford may have survived the battle, he did not know that years later he would still be fighting a war on his own home turf. For over a year now, Clifford has been struggling with homelessness - a common enemy that can strike any individual at any time. Homelessness is a situation no one should have to go through, especially a Veteran at 78 years old. Clifford entered Beth-El Center’s emergency shelter program for veterans back in February of 2026. Within just 5 months, Clifford was able to work closely with the housing first case management team at the Beth-El Center in order to locate low income stable housing. This not only worked with his budget but worked with his ongoing needs and barriers in order to keep him housed.

Clifford shows us here at the Center that no matter the obstacle, no matter the challenge, and no matter the age… any and everyone can make it through a homelessness crisis. We will miss Clifford, but we look forward to see him move on to his new life, in his new home, to find his new happiness.”

We are so grateful that on this Friday, we are able to share Clifford’s story of resilience with all of you….

Thank you for being here.

And we all hope you have an incredible weekend!

Friends,

We are once again asking for your help.

Our guests who are currently living outdoors and who are actively waiting for shelter are in need of the below items.

If Women’s Underwear could be in the following sizes, that would be amazing: Medium, Large, XL, and XXL.

Men and Women’s T-Shirts in all sizes!

These men, women, and veterans are surviving extreme conditions.

Thank you for thinking of them… It means EVERYTHING to know you care.

All items can be either dropped off or shipped to the Beth-El Center at 90 New Haven Ave in Milford. Drop off is ANY TIME! There is always someone waiting at our front desk to greet you.

Many individuals choose to ship items via their Amazon account to us because it is a super convenient way to help. This is wonderful! Please make sure you clearly label that they are to be used for “Outreach” so we ensure they end up where they need to be.

If you can’t help through donating, it is also SUPER HELPFUL to like, comment, or share this post! This amplifies our voices and makes sure we potentially reach others that would otherwise not know about us and the services we provide.
