Support the Open Spaces that Sustain us!

Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge has definitely seen an uptick in visitation lately! Aren’t we lucky to have this unspoiled wide-open space with forest, streams, and bog to explore and offer a reprieve from the lockdown of COVID-19?

We hope you will consider the value of Sunkhaze Meadows NWR as well as all the open spaces we are blessed with in Maine, and offer your support through advocacy, volunteering, or donations.

This global pandemic has us all pretty freaked out. Handled responsibly, open space and wildlife observation might be just the balm you need.

Purchasing a Maine Birder Band is a win-win...the money goes towards important projects for Maine's birds, AND you get entered to win a pair of binoculars!

Three years ago, MDIFW embarked on a heron tracking project, which has since redefined how many Mainers view great blue herons, understand their habitats and movements within the state as well as beyond our nation’s borders. Reminder that the refuge is open to hikers and hunters and both should wear hunter orange for safety. While you’re out there, we’d appreciate any reports of downed trees blocking trails so we can address them before the snow flies!

Hunter orange is a vibrant color with one job: to keep people visible.
