It was a long winter, but the Spring edition of Dirt Magazine is out and SaveSantosFarm.com is featured! Thank you to for his feature on "Born Again." It tells our story and lets everyone know what we are up to. 🍃

Maybe you have seen our SaveSantosFarm.com signs around town? We're still collecting pledges! To date, we have raised
$154,199 with a few recent $5K donations!! Thank you to all who have pledged thus far. As a reminder, we are not collecting actual funds yet, these are just pledges until we are ready to sign a contract. 🍃

Also, we have been busy behind the scenes chatting with potential partners. So lots in the mix, if you haven't pledged yet, you can join our effort to preserve a bit of the history of our beautiful town -- www.savesantosfarm.com 🍃

Holy smokes! Just days after the debut of our upcycled lawn signs, we have received some very generous pledges!

In the last few days, we've received a total of $29,485 from 11 donors. We are up to $128,918!

We THANK YOU for your pledges! Every single pledge gets us closer to our goal of raising $2m to purchase this historic farm 🍃

For clairty: We are not collecting actual funds right now. We are collecting PLEDGES of funds (how much you would donate, only if and when we reach our goal). This gives us an idea of how much community support we have. If we feel we can raise the funds via community fundraising, then we will open it up and start the actual fundraising campaign!

Thank you for your support. Together, we can make this happen!

Not filled in on the details? Read about our effort to prevent the historic Santos Farm from strip mall development, and to create an agricultural based community hub instead! 🍃

Would you like a lawn sign? Stop on by BetterWorld in Milford and ask for one. We've made plenty!

COME AND GET 'EM!

It’s no easy task to get the word out, and there are still plenty of folks in and around the Milford area who aren’t aware of our effort. Sooooo…

We've up-cycled lawn signs that some of you brought by the store after the last elections were over in November. We’ve taken a couple of days to paint them and transform them into these beautiful SaveSantosFarm.com lawn signs that you’ll soon see popping up around town 🍃

Let us know if you’d like one!

They’re now available at BetterWorld for pickup!

Recently, we did an interview with Rusty Tagliareni, a Milford based best-selling & award winning author, professional photographer, and writer for Dirt Magazine.

Dirt Magazine is a publication out of Warwick, NY, that showcases inspirational stories in green living, creative reuse, and preservation 🍃

Our Save Santos Farm effort will be featured Taglieri’s column titled 'Born Again', which shares stories that are about the concept of rebirth of, well, nearly anything you can think of - like artists who craft with recycled materials, those who have converted unusual buildings into their homes, and even an abandoned zoo that is now a public park.

We’re excited to be featured in the spring issue!  Keep an eye out!

Hello everyone! These are the faces tending the seeds of the Save Santos Farm movement 🍃

We've come together to launch this endeavor, united by a common goal and vision to save an historic farm from becoming another strip mall and to create a beautiful community hub for our town, based around farming food and fiber 🍃

This “nosey” neighbor is wondering what’s happening over at the Save Santos Farm initiative? 🍃

Although it’s the holiday season, we’ve been hard at work planning our Winter Pledge Drive! Think local music, local performers, local munchies, etc... Details forthcoming! The Santos family and developer are favorable to our plan, but we are still negotiating a deal that is fair for all parties. 🍃

We still need your support in coming up with the remaining funds. To date we have raised over $86K thanks to YOU! It’s not too late to make a holiday pledge, just go to www.savesantosfarm.com. Remember, we won’t actually be asking you for money until we reach our goal. 🍃

As a reminder, if we can raise the $2mill ourselves, we can run the farm for the “public good” and it will sit in the hands of a 501(c)3. That is still our hope. But we cannot do it without you. 🍃

Stay tuned, you’ll be seeing more of us in the New Year in a big way! We have a new look/new logo, super cool business cards and t’shirts on the way! We also have a team of elves working diligently on cool lawn signs. We are confident that 2024 is going to be a big year for us! We hope you will join us. 🍃

One piece of the vision here at Save Santos Farm is to become part of our region's Fibershed 🍃

What is a Fibershed? 🍃

A Fibershed is a place-based textile system composed of farmers, ranchers, artisans, and small-to-mid scale textile manufacturers 🍃

Similar to a local watershed or foodshed, a fibershed is focused on the source of raw material, the transparency with which it is converted into clothing, and the connectivity among all the parts, from soil to skin and back to soil 🍃

A thriving local fibershed could look something like this: wool is sheared from an animal (like alpacas!) from the pack on the farm. The wool is cleaned and then spun into yarn. Indigo or other crops for dyes are grown, harvested, and proceeded nearby. The yarn is then dyed and knitted by local artisans into wearable garments like sweaters, hats, gloves, and scarves. Voila! A 100% locally grown and made piece of clothing 🍃

How great would that be, to produce 100% Milford-grown-and-made pieces!🍃

The term Fibershed was coined by Rebecca Burgess, author of "Fibershed: Growing a Movement of Farmers, Fashion Activists, and Makers for a New Textile Economy."  Check it out, it's a fascinating read!

The community of Milford has had a long history of pulling together in the name of what’s right for the town!
We at SSF wanted to take a moment to congratulate all the souls over at “Water Not Warehouse” and its supporters that put in countless hours of work to hold off the proposed building of the 434,000-square-foot warehouse at the junction of Interstate 84 and Route 6. The warehouse would have sat directly on top of the Milford Aquifer and other watershed areas with the daily opportunity for pollutants to wash easily into our precious waterways amongst countless other horrors.
If this warehouse proposal had passed, our area would have been fundamentally changed in perpetuity and would have left the door open for other warehouse developers to build on adjacent lands.
Thank you for giving Milford this win, and giving us the chance to rest easy knowing the quality of our drinking water is protected; something we should never take lightly.

As the Native American saying goes:
“When the last tree has been cut down, the last fish caught, the last river poisoned, only then will we realize that one cannot eat money.”

We hope you’ll join in the effort to save the lands at the other gateway to Milford from development as well. …to help clear the pathway to sustainable and regenerative solutions as we fight to do what’s right for the town of Milford once more. Please pledge today ✊ https://www.savesantosfarm.com

Photos 1 +2: Milford residents come together to ban the excessive use of 209 through Milford via the trucking industry. Properties had been rattled apart, and residents couldn’t sleep through the constant roar. “The intersection of 209 and Hartford Street became known as “crash corner” because of the great number of accidents occurring there, mostly involving trucks.” *Quote; Norman B Lehde, Pike County 1989

This time of year at Save Santos Farm, we are making our holiday wish list. 🎄

As we review site plans of the farm, we are envisioning what our sustainable mercantile + market could look like. With the help of AI, we can dream up up a new space where the whole town can gather and nourish their bodies and nurture their minds. 🎄

But we can’t do it without you. This holiday season, pledge any amount at www.savesantosfarm.com. That can help make our wishlist come true — to create a better future for the town of Milford. 🎄
