It’s a wrap! Last Wednesday, June 5th, was our final Youth Council meeting for the school year. From the Veteran’s Day Parade to now, we’ve certainly made strides and I can’t possibly thank the kids enough for everything they’ve done this year! Pictured are some of the wonderful events we’ve partook in as well as some of the internal services the kids have done to help out here at the MYC!

In order: Milford Veteran’s Day Parade, decorating a tree for the Milford Gala of Trees, participating in the Santa Parade, decorating gifts to give our volunteers at the MYC Holiday Party, decorating our Community Outreach Board, learning how to properly use filming equipment with Liz Harkins from MilfordTV, learning about banking and finance with Bill Stark from Commerce Bank, participating in the Milford Family Fun and Disability Awareness Fair, participating in Milford Beautification Day, participating in the Milford Family Bridges Night at Woodland Elementary School, assembling lawn games for our MYC Summer Camp, participating in District Attorney Joseph D. Early’s Student Wellness Conference, and creating our very own MYC Youth Council Time Capsule, which will be opened in 2034!

Here’s to a great year full of community service, outreach, and volunteerism; and may there be many more!!

The MYC Youth Council would like to thank Joseph D. Early Jr., Worcester County District Attorney's Office for inviting us to partake in the annual DA Early’s Student Wellness Conference! The kids had a blast and enjoyed learning about substance abuse, the dangers of ni****ne use, and internet safety! The kids absolutely loved the performances and seminars and learned a lot!

REMINDER FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN ATTENDING THIS YEAR’S DA EARLY STUDENT WELLNESS CONFERENCE: ALL children who are attending the DA Early Student Wellness Conference tomorrow, May 23rd 2019 are expected to meet with Assistant Director Katie Covell and Youth Leadership Councilor Marissa Urella at the MYC at 7:00am tomorrow morning! Once everyone is at the MYC we will leave for Worcester State University, where the conference is being held this year. The conference will run from 8:00am to 2:00pm with a short lunch break. IF YOUR CHILD HAS A FOOD ALLERGY PLEASE PACK THEM A LUNCH. All children attending should be dropped off wearing their new MYC Youth Council t-shirts! We would also like to thank Joseph D. Early Jr., Worcester County District Attorney's Office for sponsoring this incredible event!

This Wednesday we will be having volunteers from New Hope, Inc. come in to educate Youth Council on healthy relationships! We are so grateful to have such wonderful organizations dedicated to such important causes in the community that are willing to come in to educate us on something that will affect all of us at some point in our lives!

Final Reminder!
Tomorrow, April 27th, Youth Council will be participating in this year's annual Milford Beautification Day at the Upper Charles Trail. We will be meeting at the MYC at 9am and walking from there to the Upper Charles Trail! This event will be RAIN OR SHINE so please plan accordingly! We will be volunteering for a few hours to clean up a specific area of the trail and afterwards we will be walking back to the MYC for parent pick-ups! Please stay in contact with your children if they are attending and arrange transportation prior to pick-up time! If you would like your child to walk to another location for pick-up or for them to walk home, please contact me at [email protected] or (508)473-1756 and let me know ahead of time!

Just a reminder for all Youth Council members and parents, this year's Milford Beautification Day is officially one week away! Next Saturday, April 27th, we will be meeting at the MYC at 9:00am and walking from there to the Upper Charles Trail! Please keep in contact with your children as we may finish cleaning our area before the designated 1:00pm end time!

On the 27th of this month, MYC Youth Council members will be volunteering to help clean up the Upper Charles Trail in Milford for the 5th Annual Milford Beautification Day! Permission slips were passed out at last week's meeting, and will be due tomorrow, April 3rd!

Do you know a child that is interested in learning about budgeting, saving money, and other finance-related topics? Come join the MYC Youth Council tomorrow, Wednesday March 13th at 4pm for a presentation on how to properly budget and save money! This program is only available for children registered with the MYC 2018-2019 After School Program, so please be sure you are registered before attending!

This is a group of young Milford Youth Center members, who are striving to make a difference in the community by facilitating different youth community events and taking part in volunteer opportunities! The MYC Youth Council meets every Wednesday, from 4-5 PM, at the Milford Youth Center. Reminder, members must be registered with the After School program to participate!

Was pleased to return the bottle of Nipmuck Whiskey to the Milford Youth Center. It had been lodged in the original ceiling of the former Armory that was constructed in 1911 and only discovered by the contractor when the renovations started in 2014.
Curious of its origin, I was graciously provided research by Dr. Noel BonTempo and Giancarlo BonTempo that revealed the whiskey was a special blend of the Patrick H. Gillon & Co., known all over New England that sold at 4 quarts for $2.85 in 1911. The company was established in 1855 at 42 Main Street in Milford.
The bottle was preserved in pristine condition. I put it in a shadow box with a copy of the dedication program from 1912 and a letter explaining the story.
A true piece of our past!
