It's time for the 2026 Teen Dating Violence Poster Contest! The contest is open to Delaware middle and high school youth across the state. This year's theme is "Beyond the Post: Safety, Privacy, and Empowerment Online." The contest is open until December 13th.

Did you know that dating violence impacts LGBTQ+ relationships at higher rates than it does heterosexual relationships?

A recent study released by the Urban Institute on dating violence and LGBTQ+ communities found that LGBT youth are at higher risk of all sorts of dating violence in comparison to heterosexual youth, where transgender and female youth were at the highest risk for teen dating violence (TDV).

The questions, "Why do they stay?" or "Why didn't they tell anyone?" are very common when we think about intimate partner violence in relationships. We know that abuse doesn't discriminate, and can happen to anyone, but some communities and populations are more heavily impacted than others. LGBTQIA+ communities and youth experience intimate partner violence at higher rates than individuals in heterosexual relationships. Here are some obstacles LGBTQIA+ community members face, which may lead them to stay in an unhealthy or abusive relationship.
