The Brothers of the State and Jurisdiction of Delaware had the incredible opportunity to travel to Boston, MA for the TOUR – Sights and Sounds Speaker Series, where history truly came alive. This was truly a pilgrimage back to where Prince Hall Affiliation all started, a journey to honor our roots, reflect on our legacy, and walk in the footsteps of our founding father, Prince Hall.
We visited the resting place of Prince Hall at Copp’s Hill, along with Cambridge Commons and the historic African Meeting House. Prince Hall was not only the founder of Prince Hall Masonry, but also a fearless civil rights leader who fought for freedom, equality, and justice. His leadership helped organize approximately 5,500 Black soldiers, who were commissioned by George Washington to join the fight for independence. Standing at these sacred landmarks reminded us of one man’s powerful vision that has grown into more than one million members worldwide.
At Copp’s Hill, we paid our respects at the final resting place of Prince Hall. At Cambridge Commons, we reflected on the sacrifices of over 25,000 Black men who fought in the war. At the African Meeting House, recognized as the oldest Black church in America and possibly the site of the first public school for Black children, we witnessed the strength of faith, education, and resilience.
Day 2 was equally powerful as the Brothers attended the African Lodge No. 459 Symbolic Reopening. The symbolic opening ceremony was truly a must-see experience for all Master Mason rich in tradition, history, and brotherhood. This Boston tour was more than a trip; it was a journey through legacy, purpose, pride, and a pilgrimage back to where it all began.
