Milan Endowment for Growth in Academics | Milan, Tennessee | Academic Excellence What is MEGA?

Established in November, 1989, the Milan Endowment for Growth in Academics is a fund that provides Milan students educational opportunities over and above that which they would normally receive. A generous local industry, CECO Door Products, started the endowment with a $10,000 donation and continues to be a vital MEGA supporter. Due to the generous support of many individuals and businesses, the

MEGA endowment neared $670,000 in June, 2022. Only dividends from the endowment fund are spent annually while the principal amount remains intact to yield increasing proceeds year after year. Currently,
annual grants are funded by allocating 5 percent of the endowment’s average value
over a 3-year time period. The fiscal management of MEGA funds is overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors. Bruce Niven serves as president. The 2022-23 school year is the 32nd year for the awarding of MEGA grants in the Milan Special School District. 29 new MEGA grants totaling $32,449.67 were presented to teachers in August, 2022, bringing MEGA's total contribution to Milan schools 1,032 grants valued at $740,389.91.

When MEGA was created, the goal was to help make Milan schools one of the best systems in the state academically. The MEGA board of directors continues working toward that goal.
