🎉 Born on this day in 1890: Charles Edison!

While his father, Thomas Edison, lit up the world with his inventions, Charles carved out his own remarkable legacy in public service and business. Taking the helm of Thomas A. Edison, Inc., he proved to be a savvy businessman before dedicating his life to his country.

Did you know he served as the U.S. Secretary of the Navy under FDR and as the 42nd Governor of New Jersey? 🇺🇸⚓️

Today, we remember his dedication to public service and his work in preserving his family's incredible historical legacy.

🌟 Join us at the Milan Public Library on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 1:00 PM for a fascinating presentation on Glenmont - Thomas Edison's legendary estate.

While our museum honors the modest birthplace where the world's greatest inventor began his journey, this talk explores the striking juxtaposition of how his life ended: living in a magnificent 29-room Queen Anne mansion.

We are thrilled to welcome guest speaker Bruce Tangowski, an expert docent from Glenmont, who will share insights into Mr. Edison's later years and his grand home in West Orange, New Jersey.

This is a FREE to the public event!

Don't miss this incredible peek into the full arc of Edison's extraordinary life and the latest addition to our Edison Heritage Series Tours!!

We'll see you there! 💡

On July 4, 1969, Mother Nature brought the historic “Ohio Fireworks Derecho” to Milan, packing 100+ mph winds and a foot of rain. The Huron River crested at a record 31.1 feet, causing unprecedented destruction across the town. But how did the Edison Birthplace miraculously survive the storm of the century? ⛈️🌊

Read our latest blog post to learn how a smart decision made by Samuel Edison back in the 1840s saved the historic home from the devastating Flood of ‘69!

Today we remember Theodore Miller Edison, born July 10, 1898, the youngest of Thomas and Mina Edison's children.

Theodore grew up in the shadow of a legend and still carved out a remarkable path of his own. The only one of Edison's children to earn a college degree, he graduated from MIT with a degree in physics and went on to hold more than 80 patents of his own, proof that the family's inventive spark burned bright in the next generation. Later in life, he became a devoted conservationist and a champion for the natural world.

Curiosity, it turns out, runs in the family.
