As state budget discussions continue, President Espenshade spent today at the Capitol meeting with key legislative leaders and members of the Governor's budget office.
Ensuring the Land Grant mission in Pennsylvania, the Land Scrip line of the budget dedicates funds to the College of Ag Sciences, which sadly has been only level funded for the past four years. In addition to education, these dedicated experts are often on the front line, researching way to mitigate disease outbreaks like avian flu, addressing invasive species, and of course Extension, bringing knowledge and expertise to you and every county in the state. Espenshade joined his fellow PSU Ag Trustees alongside Dean Troy Ott, Extension Director Jeff Hyde, and Gov't Relations Director Erin Wachter. Many others, such as Extension educators and the 4-H Council members were also having meetings to share with legislators the importance of funding for the College. Together we can help ensure our farms and rural communities have the guidance and resources needed to prosper.

Skills games, which differ from video gaming systems, are unregulated and too often unmonitored as to who is playing them. President Espenshade offers comments about potential oversight by the state.

Skill games are proliferating in rural Pennsylvania, and lawmakers are debating how they should be regulated to generate revenue for the state and control their spread.
