Goodbye BG ♥️ Building Generations Pregnancy & Family Services Update! One beautiful ending and two new beautiful beginnings! One mission accomplished and one that never ends.
Firstly, thank you to Jesus Christ for 150 families served plus more than we can count that have used our community pantry box, salvations, and the arrival of THREE OBGyns in Midwest City thanks to SSM Health St. Anthony Hospital - Midwest!
When our family first moved back to Midwest City, we knew we wanted to serve our community in a felt need. We decided to turn to prayer and Travis heard in his heart that we were to do something for every baby born in Midwest City! That seemed like a tall ask. How in the world could we do that? And how many babies were born in and how many families lived in Midwest City? The answer? Zero babies born in MWC and over 20 thousand families.
After researching, we discovered the birthing center in Midwest City where we delivered our first child closed and all birthing mothers now needed to travel downtown or to Shawnee. With previous work in nonprofit and working with under-resourced families, we knew this would be a huge problem for those who did not have transportation or a stable support system. Around that same time, a former youth of ours from our youth pastoring days reached out and needed help with transportation to her appointments and after she gave birth downtown. Baby unfortunately had to stay in NICU and there were days after giving birth where this poor mama would choose between paying for lunch or paying an Uber to go see her baby in NICU because the Ronald Mcdonald house would not house her because she lived locally.
Thankfully we were able to step in and help her but it made us realize- there is a huge gap in service providing in Eastern Oklahoma County, especially in the Mid-Del area.
That's where Bracht Family Ministries' ministry arm, Building Generations, was born.
Over the next two years with the support of individual donors, city grants through the Midwest City Hospital Authority, SSM Health St. Anthony Hospital - Midwest grants, Mission Mid-Del, Inc. housing our office, Surveyor Jim Yager giving us our first office before Mission Mid-Del, Midwest City Chamber of Commerce Taste of Midwest City fundraiser beneficiary, and the Americorps employee program, we were able to serve over 150 mothers through maternity resource services like a maternity clothes closet, After Delivery Meal and care packages, baby item closet, resource and referral and transportation, monthly mom support groups called Mom Crew, a FANTASTIC mom equipping community resource event The Chosen Moms Event: Midwest City Mom's Mother's Day Celebration with so many wonderful sponsors. Another special thanks to John and Robin Devere for building our community pantry that has served at least over 300 families and is still operating today. A HUGE thank you to St. Matthew United Methodist for hosting us each month for Moms Crew. We were also able to facilitate the Midwest City History book from start to finish to advocate for families in Midwest City how great their city is and be rooted in their past so they can know where they are going in the future of their city.
After two years of serving, we were blessed to employ two wonderful women through the Americorps program. One of our ladies had a dream in March that I had a meeting with them that BG would be closing. As the current presidential administration began to make changes with federal funding, we ended up losing our Americorps workers which caused us to begin to evaluate if our mission was complete.
Did we do something for every baby born in Midwest City? The answer is no- God and this community collaboration did.
Right as we lost the funding, we also got the news that after years of advocacy and our relationship with SSM Midwest - Midwest City was now getting not just one but THREE OBGYNS!!!! This was such a huge win and something that we felt confident was an answered prayer and a sign that our work was complete. We bridged the gap for those pregnant until providers were present in Midwest City.
As of May 2025, Building Generations no longer accepted clients and now refers them to other local providers in the area such as Safe Families for Children - Oklahoma, Leah's Hope, and Masters Market.
This was not an easy decision. Where there is under-resourced families (which the Bible says there will always be until the end of time), there will always be a need. Our heart and passion for healthy moms and healthy families will never cease and we are turning our attention to collaborating with other organizations to still be an advocate and allied voice for those who are seemingly voiceless as mothers and families with small children especially as pastors of Arise Church Uptown OKC and residents and business owners in Midwest City.
We are honored to share that Leah's Hope has been given our transportation vehicle to help take their clients to and from the doctors, classes and continuing the work of accessible transportation for at-risk mothers in Mid-Del through their programming. We are so glad to see it put to further use for this mission in this area as intended!
Thank you to everyone who invested in BG and allowed us to be a conduit of serving as the hands and feet of Jesus. This is not the end, but just a new chapter of a lifelong mission to love Jesus, love families, and serve our community.
We love all of you and are proud to call you friends! Part 2 to come!
