When we started this journey to remember Carter and give back, we had no idea the outpouring of support that we would receive would be so overwhelming. Today marks the 2nd anniversary of Carters passing. This evening, the Carter High Epperly Foundation Board met to review and select the recipients of the inaugural foundation scholarships. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we have selected 5 recipients for scholarships this year. This exceeds our modest expectations and targets when we started on this adventure a year ago. Recipients will be informed of their scholarship award the evening of May 18 at the Powhatan High School Senior awards ceremony. We sincerely appreciate the donations and support and look forward to sharing the names of the recipients after May 18.

Donate to the Carter Hugh Epperly Foundation. Your contributions support special education scholarships and keep Carter's legacy alive.

As we look back on the year, we reflect on how generous the support has been for the Carter Hugh Epperly Foundation. We launched the Foundation with a simple and heartfelt goal: continue Carter’s legacy by providing scholarships to students in our community who are connected to the world of special education—those who live it, those who teach it, and those who want to make it their life’s work. There were a number of "firsts" in 2025. The Foundation was established, we received our 501c3 designation, launched our website, held our first board meeting, and started our path forward to continue Carter's legacy.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we have almost 4 scholarships funded for the class of 2026. As we transition to the new year, we look forward to awarding our first batch of scholarship awards and many more firsts in the new year ahead.

Thank you all for your generosity and support! It truly means the world to us. Much more to come in the year ahead and we will provide an update in the new year on what comes next.

Rex was honored to speak at the annual Tree of Life Memorial honoring donors and their families as new names were added to the tree at Bon Secour St Mary's Hospital. Rex and Margie were able to continue sharing Carter's story to hopefully comfort and inspire others.

Carter's Rex kicked off the Foundation board meeting earlier this week. We are almost up to 3 funded scholarships for the PHS graduating class of 2026. Margie is meeting with the PHS guidance counselors shortly to get the word out. Plenty of good things to look forward to... We are working on a fundraising night at a restaurant in February 2026 (Carter's birthday month), a fall fundraising event, and working on other ideas to help celebrate Carter's memory around his favorite holiday coming up in December. More to come and we very much appreciate everyone's support.
