Protect Midlothian's Living Wage

Protect Midlothian's Living Wage Protect the Cook County's new minimum wage increase and paid sick leave ordinances in Midlothian, Illinois and neighboring municipalities.

In October of 2016, the Cook County board voted to gradually raise the minimum wage in the county to $13 an hour by 2020. The first increase will happen July 1st of this year, when the minimum wage will raise to $10 an hour. They also passed an expansion of sick leave for workers. While not the $15 minimum wage workers and activists have been fighting for, this is still a big win for workers in Co

ok County. However, several suburbs are attempting to roll back this achievement, and “opt-out” of the minimum wage increase. The city of Oak Forest was one of the first, quickly passing an ordinance last December declaring that minimum wage in their city will not raise and sick pay protections will not expand along with the rest of the county. Even one town opting-out of the increase makes the increase less effective, as not only are some workers excluded, but businesses then have leverage to convince other towns to opt-out as well. This page is devoted to making sure Midlothian stays on board with the Cook County minimum wage increase, and that our surrounding towns do as well.
