We’ve mentioned before that we have a partnership with our friends at Chesterfield County Animal Services called Tuesday Trekkers. We go each Tuesday and walk all of the dogs, throw the ball with them in the play yard, give them treats and tell them that they are perfect angels, just generally try to give them a little extra enrichment and out-of-the-kennel time. We have a regular group of volunteers that go each week, many of them in their third year. They get used to seeing the same dogs and getting to know each of their personalities. It can be emotionally tough sometimes watching favorite dogs just sitting in the shelter week after week getting passed by by adopters and starting to go a little kennel crazy. Sometimes they show up on a Tuesday and a favorite dog is no longer in the shelter, but it wasn’t adopted. Our Trekkers are special people that do special work, and we like to lighten their emotional load whenever possible. So we were excited to share this picture with them of long-timer, Shopkins (now Harriet the Spy), leaving the shelter after being there for months, watching her sister get adopted while she was left behind, watching potential adopter after potential adopter walk by her kennel without stopping. She is a great dog who is adorable with her one blue eye, petite, happy, and loves other dogs, so our Trekkers have been scratching their heads week after week when they would arrive on Tuesday afternoons to find Shopkins still sitting patiently in her kennel. This is the kind of little victory that rescuers need to keep going. Shopkins is now tucked into her new Sanctuary Rescue foster home and loving every second of naps on the couch and romping around with her foster brother, Frank the Tank. And dare I say she is smiling in her freedom ride picture? Big thank you to our wonderful foster family, the Efremidis, for giving this sweet lady a soft place to land while she looks for her forever family.

Hey, hey, hey it’s Caturday - but who really cares when you have a before and after like this! Shaggy Mr. Folgers at the shelter yesterday, and trimmed and dapper Mr. Folgers spiffed up and in a foster this morning. Boom💥!!
All you have to do to be a part of a life-changing before and after like this is foster a dog in need!

May Bell, the tiny, terrified, trembling hound that we introduced you to a couple of weeks ago, is enjoying the fact that life in a foster home is way better than life in the shelter. She’s now officially available for adoption. We’ll post her adoption listing in the comments. So for everyone that showed interest in adopting her when we first posted the video of her shaking in her kennel, here is your chance!

We had a Liz’s Place Clinic this weekend and had all sorts of fantastic visitors. Among them were Roxy and her nine tiny puppies. They’re growing up, looking like adorable baby muffins, and will be listed for adoption this time next week.

Hey, hey, hey it’s Caturday! Somehow our dog rescue currently has three kittens in care: a little Cleftie boy that came to us at hours old, a little orphan girl that we snatched up around two weeks old to keep the Cleftie company, and then ANOTHER Cleftie kitten that arrived a week ago. Her cleft was very interesting to us, not what we’re used to seeing; it looked like a zigzag puzzle piece and we suspected trauma. Sure enough, a week later and it’s healing up! Just when you think you’ve seen it all, a traumatic “cleft” palate injured kitten shows up.
