CALL TO ACTION: Please copy, paste & SHARE to keep mom and baby together!!!
Mommas, I am urging you to help share this story!! I recently learned about a pregnant mom who desperately needs our help!!! Like so many of us, Abigail suffered a traumatic pregnancy loss (hers @ 5 months) and fell into depression...ultimately turning to substance abuse to cope. She continued her battle with addiction, racking up possession charges and is currently serving an 18 month sentence for violating probation. Two weeks in, she found out she was pregnant again. This news motivated Abigail to clean up her act and prepare to raise her baby. She sought out treatment and was approved to go to a center that would allow her to get the help she needs WITH her new baby! Abigail’s lawyer petitioned the judge for a reconsideration of her sentence but because he didn’t file a “stay” to keep her local, she was moved to Dept of Corrections and the local jurisdiction could not hear the case. This technicality left her in jail for eight months while pregnant… in medical ISOLATION with zero support or rehabilitation. But it gets WORSE… Abigail is scheduled to be induced the first week in March and will be with her baby in post partum recovery until she is discharged and SENT BACK to prison. Abigail’s baby will be handed over to her mother while she serves the remainder of her sentence which ends on May 1st. That is EIGHT weeks!! Abigail wrote the governor and pleaded for medical clemency so her sentence could be shortened EIGHT weeks and was DENIED!!!! Abigail has made mistakes and is paying for them HOWEVER there are alternative ways for her to serve the short remainder of her sentence in a treatment center or at home on an ankle monitor to avoid separating her from her newborn baby. We all know someone impacted by addiction and so many who have come out on the other end. Let’s and stop technicalities that prevent non-violent offenders from getting treatment they want and deserve… especially in this case of mom and baby!!! I can only imagine how Abigail must feel knowing she will soon endure the most beautiful yet brutal events of her life. Abigail’s mother and others who know and love her beg you to SHARE her story!!! To make a difference, call or email Glenn Youngkin and include Abigail’s DOC number below and urge him to reconsider!!!
