There are still some great native plants available for sale in front of the Visitor Center today (5/30) until 5pm and tomorrow (5/31) from 12-5pm or until sold out. All wildflowers and grasses are perennials and native to Michigan. They would make a great addition to your home landscape!

Pop quiz! You're walking in a green space and you see this precious fawn all alone. What do you do?

If your inclination was to, say "awπŸ₯°πŸ₯Ή" then continue your day, you pass!

It's easy to fall into the baby animal trap this time of year, but wildlife babies are meant to be alone, we promise! They easily go hours without mom so that she can do her own self care and to protect them from being noticed by predators. Some animals, like rabbits, only visit their babies twice a day.

If an animal is truly injured or the mother is obviously deceased, that is when human intervention can take place by calling a wildlife rehabilitator. Find a list of licensed professionals at: www.michigan.gov/dnr/managing-resources/wildlife/keep-wild

With the help of volunteers from Corteva Agriscience, Wild Ones Mid-Mitten Chapter and others, CNC staff planted 5,000 native wildflower plugs at Poseyville Preserve, Emerson Park and CNC restoration areas! CNC plantings were made possible through the Wildflower Association of Michigan grant, and flowers were purchased through Wildtype Native Plant Nursery. Thank you to all our volunteers that make these projects possible!

We are seeing our efforts take root!

Pictured is one of the dogwood cuttings that was planted in April with participants from the Propagating Native Plants program. A big thank you to everyone that helped plant that day! Most of the cuttings are sprouting leaves and the transplanted pines are showing new growth.

Check out these young plants by walking to the Wetlands Area from the Chippewa Trail at the Badour Road intersection.

Another lake sturgeon has been added to the Saginaw Bay Watershed! Last week, we released the fish that was kept in the Visitor Center. Several weeks before the release, it underwent a surgery under anesthesia (aka "sturgery") to get outfitted with an acoustical tag. This tag will allow biologists to track its movement throughout the river system and the Saginaw Bay. We can't wait to see where this fish goes!
