The time has arrived. We have successfully completed the merger between The Legacy Center for Community Success and Midland Kids First. I am now finalizing the transition of operations to The Legacy Center under the capable leadership of Kathryn Tate.

Although I will not be joining the agency, I am enthusiastic about the future prospects of Midland Kids First. Making the right decision can be challenging, but it ultimately yields peace of mind and, in this instance, joy. I appreciate your support for Midland Kids First and kindly request that you extend your backing to The Legacy Center.

Midland Kids First will continue to operate under the prevention umbrella at The Legacy Center. Please visit their website at www.tlc4cs.org or location at 2417 Abbott Road, Midland.

Gilly and I wish you peace, love, and joy during this holiday season!

Preventing youth substance use starts with mental health awareness. Mental health and substance use aren’t separate issues, they’re deeply connected.

1 in 5 teens who experience a major depressive episode will also develop a substance use disorder. Behind the choices some teens make to use substances are often untreated feelings of anxiety, depression, trauma, or stress.

Adolescence is already a tough time. With peer pressure, academic expectations, social media, and the developing brain, many teens feel overwhelmed and turn to substances as a way to cope.

The good news is that we can make a difference. When we prioritize mental health, teach healthy coping skills, and help youth discover positive outlets, like a Natural High, we interrupt the cycle before it starts.

Let’s focus on resilience. Let’s listen. Let’s act early.

Read our blog post to learn how supporting youth mental health can prevent substance use and why it matters more than ever - guest written by our partners at . Link in comments.

Together, we can empower the next generation to thrive without needing substances to cope.

🧠 The changes your child’s brain is going through during adolescence are AMAZING, but they also leave the brain much more vulnerable to the damaging effects of substance use than adults because their brain isn’t fully developed until about age 25! 🧠 Of all Americans struggling with addiction, 90% of them started using substances in their teen years, so it’s important to take early action to keep your child alcohol and drug-free. 😎 Learn more about ways to take early action at ParkHillCAFY.org 🧠

💜 We’re proud to support the Midland County Youth Survey!

At Big Brothers Big Sisters, we know that listening to young people is one of the most powerful ways to help them thrive. That’s why we’re proud to join our partners at The Legacy Center for Community Success and local schools in supporting Asset Day on November 25.

On this day, students across Midland County will take part in the Midland County Youth Survey - a confidential and voluntary survey that helps our community better understand what’s going well for kids and where more support is needed.

This data is what helps all of us - families, schools, and organizations like BBBS - build programs that respond to real challenges and create brighter futures for our youth.

Parents and caregivers, your encouragement matters. Talk with your child about why their voice is important and how their honest answers can help make Midland County stronger for everyone.
