🏆 Congratulations to Russell Meyers, the Midland Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 Citizen of the Year!

For more than two decades, Russell has dedicated his leadership to strengthening healthcare and improving the quality of life in Midland. His work has helped advance major healthcare initiatives across our community, including Scharbauer Tower, Midland Memorial Hospital's first neonatal intensive care unit and the Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center.

His commitment to collaboration, service and building a healthier Midland has made a lasting impact on our community.

“I am truly honored to be chosen as Midland’s Citizen of the Year for 2026. In my 24 years in Midland, I have been blessed to work closely with hundreds of colleagues, co-workers, and a wide variety of supporters who have embraced the vision of a healthier community. I am humbled by this recognition and mindful of the fact that I could have accomplished nothing without this extraordinary support. Thank you!” — Russell Meyers

🌟 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: West Texas Food Bank

The West Texas Food Bank is fighting hunger across 19 counties and 34,000 square miles of West Texas, helping connect children, families and seniors with the nutritious food they need.

Through a network of more than 100 partners, WTFB distributed an incredible 9,537,138 pounds of food during the 2025–2026 fiscal year as of August 2026.
Their impact reaches far beyond food distribution. Programs like Food 2 Kids weekend backpacks, Kids Café, school pantries, summer meals, senior food boxes, mobile distributions, SNAP assistance, nutrition education and disaster relief help meet the unique needs of our West Texas communities.

“To me, the impact of the West Texas Food Bank is knowing a parent has one less worry tonight, a child has the food they need to learn and grow, and a senior doesn’t have to choose between groceries and another necessity. That’s what makes this work so meaningful. We want our neighbors to feel supported and know they have somewhere to turn.”
— Libby Stevens, CEO, West Texas Food Bank

With facilities in Midland and Odessa and the support of volunteers, donors and community partners, the West Texas Food Bank continues working toward a West Texas without hunger.

We’re proud to spotlight the West Texas Food Bank and the meaningful work they do every day to serve our region!

What a great day kicking off the first session of Leadership Midland!

Our 2026–2027 cohort spent Education Day exploring the educational opportunities, workforce development programs and community resources helping shape the future of Midland.

The day began with a visit to Bynum School Midland Texas, where participants toured the campus and learned more about its approach to education. At Midland College, the cohort heard from Skillpoint Alliance Permian Basin about workforce development and career training opportunities available in our community.

Participants also connected with representatives from the Permian Basin Area Foundation, Abell-Hanger Foundation and Education Partnership of the Permian Basin, gaining insight into the organizations and partnerships supporting local students and educational initiatives.

The afternoon included a tour of the Midland College's Advanced Technology Center (ATC), followed by presentations from Harmony Public Schools West Texas, Texas Leadership of Midland, Midland Education Foundation and Greenwood Independent School District.

One of the day's biggest takeaways was the number of programs, foundations and educational institutions working together to support students, expand access to resources and create pathways to future careers.

A huge thank you to all the schools, organizations and community leaders who welcomed our cohort and shared their insights. Thank you to Heather Lindley for coordinating today. We're excited for another year of learning about the people, programs and partnerships that make Midland thrive!

Thursday’s L.E.A.D. session was all about strengthening leadership from the inside out!

The cohort kicked off the year by exploring individual communication styles and team dynamics, learning how understanding the way we communicate can build stronger trust, alignment and collaboration.

We were also honored to welcome Midland ISD Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Howard as our community guest speaker. Dr. Howard shared updates on the growth, strategic initiatives and positive milestones taking shape across Midland ISD, along with the district’s continued focus on student achievement, staff empowerment and community partnership.

Beyond district updates, Dr. Howard reflected on her own leadership journey and what brought her back to Midland. She shared valuable lessons on leading with purpose, navigating challenges with transparency and resilience, and investing in the community that helped shape her.

Thank you, Dr. Howard, for sharing your time, perspective and leadership with this year’s L.E.A.D. cohort!
