Did you know that today is World Homeless Day?

It's not a celebration, but it marks a special day for us when we remember that there are many in our community who still need our help.

If you'd like to make a difference for our homeless neighbors, here's a good place to start: join us for a tour. Let us introduce you to the good work that goes on every day in our shelters and our soup kitchen - we'd love to show you around!

Comment "make a difference" below, and we'll reach out to you via instant message about when you can drop in for a tour.

Let's work together to give real hope to the homeless, hungry, and hurting in our community!

The morning is just starting to break for executive director Saralyn Temple during Conversations on a Bench. Now she sits down with Bob Marsh, a former employee and current volunteer of the Open Door. One of Bob's greatest strengths is connecting people through relationships, and he reflects on the friends he's met at the Open Door and how his time here influenced his current role at Memorial Presbyterian Church.

It's always good to hear from Bob!

We’re ending Neighboring Week with a special guest - Randy from Discount Towing!

Yesterday, one of the young moms at the women’s center had a flat tire. The lug nuts on her tire were totally stripped, so she had no way to change it - but that’s when Randy stepped in!

Randy donated his time to change the tire for her right there at the shelter and made sure her car was safe on the road for her and her family.

Thank you, Randy, and thank you, Discount Towing, for loving your neighbors this week!

Here's one last way you can love your neighbors during Neighboring Week!

We're running low on a lot of our kitchen essentials now that's October - would you be willing to pick up an item or two from this list so we can continue to feed our neighbors in need through the soup kitchen?

We're also still looking for help with Dial-A-Ride and gas cards, too!

Donations can be dropped off at the soup kitchen location at 412 W Buttles St between 8 am and 8 pm - although we do ask that you avoid donating between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm when we serve lunch because parking space is limited.

Thank you for giving!

Happy Neighboring Week! Did someone say”ice cream?”

This year, we decided to extend our neighboring week greetings to our friends who are housed in the Midland County Jail. Together with our friend Chaplain Steve from Reach the Forgotten Jail Ministry, our team served a special ice cream sundae bar to the women’s pod and to the men’s recovery pod.

Special thanks to Captain Amy Randall and the rest of the officers who joined us in sharing some extra compassion with our neighbors today!
