Coaching others to excellence has four secret ingredients - MOT (Moment of Truth), THP (There, Here, Path), ALA (Act, Learn, Adjust), and Persist. Moment of Truth (MOT) uses the structure of the other three. MOT encourages performance excellence, and you dramatically enhance your ability to lead and coach when you use MOT. And one of the most overlooked elements is preparing for the MOT. But Moment of Truth is just one of the four secret ingredients. When you coach others to excellence, you don't manipulate or control them - you share the truth. Using the MOT tool is something every person needs, especially anyone in a leading or managing position. MOT is not a secret manager tool that only you can use. Everyone needs to know MOT. By the way, it is extremely useful at home, as well as at work. Step 1: REALITY This first step gets you and the other person on the same page. Great teams or collaborative results are critical for most organizations. But a big problem looms over all teams, and great teams deal with the PROBLEM. If you haven't read The Five Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencioni, please do. He provides excellent insight into five mistakes that hurt teams and teamwork. Here is his list altered slightly.
- Lack of trust
- Unclear or wrong goals
- Lack of accountability
- Lack of commitment
- Inappropriate conflict
- Be defensive. Don't be teachable
- Be impatient. Don't suffer long
- Always be right. Don't learn
- Seek revenge. Don't forgive
- Be a quitter. Don't persevere.

Obviously, the list would be much longer if I spent more than a few minutes. This ME issue is THE PROBLEM for everyone, everywhere. It cripples relationships and teams. As a result, when you make life about ME, you are in the LEFT CIRCLE - and are a perceived victim of life, circumstances, and people.

Your sin nature has a short time frame for satisfaction, so satisfaction is temporary. Much of the problem comes from the judgments on men and women. The primary desire of the sin nature is the same as Satan's desire - everything is about ME! Your sin nature drives your energy to have a narrow focus on appetites, impulses, and pleasures. Those three things require satisfaction NOW! That is what God shows you in the original sin in the Garden of Eden. So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. - Genesis 3:6. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. - Ephesians 3:20–21. Satisfaction depends on the nature of the object. What does that mean? Find out over on our blog today!

Explore why satisfaction is temporary and how sin nature drives the desire for immediate pleasures in life.

YOU CAN’T SCALE YOURSELF.

Your best people leave because they feel micromanaged. Your struggling team members never improve, no matter how much you coach them. You’re fighting fires instead of leading. And no matter what you try, the same problems keep showing up in different forms.

The problem isn’t your leadership skills, your people, or your strategy. The problem is structure. Right now, whether you built it on purpose or not, your organization has a structure — and that structure is demanding the exact behavior you’re getting.

The Freedom V Operating System introduces a different structure: one built on self-governance, responsible freedom, and peer accountability instead of control and compliance. It’s simple enough to draw in a single image, and rigorous enough to run an organization on. Once it’s built, it does what control never could — it creates a path of least resistance toward the behavior you actually want.

Your relationships will be distorted and dysfunctional when the image of God is distorted. Men's testosterone puts a focus on power for men and women's estrogen-progesterone focus on relating. Of course, development can focus men on relating and women on power, so we have a real mess. Whether based on design or development, each of us tends to have a preference for power or relating. Too much power becomes "My way or the highway!" Too much relating becomes "Can't we all just get along!"

Unveil the dynamics of complementary or competing relationships. Understand God’s design for men and women in your interactions.

Powerful relational leaders use proportion, not balance. They are not too powerful or relational - they are just right for each situation. They understand that leading is about getting results AND developing people because they know the critically simple point that people get results! Of course, new and seasoned leaders wrestle with how much they should get results from the people and how much they need to relate to them. For example, how much to be the boss and how much to be a friend. These are structures that you form, and they will impact your leadership. Leaders tend either toward getting results or relating to people. Even the best powerful relational leaders tend to one or the other. RESULTS or RELATING is a straightforward way to think about your leadership style. That is great if you prefer to use the five leadership styles (Directive, Transactional, Delegative, Participative, and Transformational). Learn more over on our website today!

The DICTATOR relationship mistake is "trying to change another person." All four relationship mistakes are about control - this one is definitely about control. It is like you see yourself as the Jr. Holy Spirit trying to tell everyone what to do. You are the one that knows what is best for everyone else. While you may have good intent, you are still a good person up to no good. You tend to only be happy when others are doing what you want which leaves you sad or angry when they don't do what you want. Who is the Beneficiary? Have you ever tried to change somebody? Of course, you have! You might be thinking, “What’s wrong with that?” Maybe nothing – it depends on who is the beneficiary of the change. Do you want them to change, just because it would be best for them?

Understand the dictator relationship mistake: the belief that you can control others by changing them for your own happiness.

When you look at life or almost anything through the filter of the image of God, you will understand people and life much better. That is a simple, yet profound way to see people and life. The following does not pretend to be a scholarly treatise on the image of God. While that would be great, it does not fit my desire, credentials, or strengths. On the other hand, if the image of God is best described through maleness and femaleness, Separate & Belonging, or Powerful & Relational, it should not be that difficult to find it in God’s Word. Some examples provide both elements and others just one. Micah 6:8 "He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?" This is one of my favorite verses in the Bible, because of its simple, basic insight into what makes life good.

Explore how to understand people and life through the lens of the image of God. Discover perspectives that enrich your view.

If you are in the servant leader structure, the path of least resistance is servant leader behavior because structure demands behavior. That does not mean much to you unless you understand what structure is. Don’t worry; structure is very practical once you learn more about it. So, let's talk about structure because it is a compelling principle in everyone's life. Physical and mental structures are constantly demanding action from you. But you seldom notice them. Everything in life follows a structure! And what you have stored in your mind, especially what you value, creates the most influential structures in your life. What you think about drives your actions and feelings! And leaders that believe they should focus primarily on results will miss the people component - relating. Since the principle of structure is very powerful, you might want to learn more about it. Head over to our website to learn more today!
