The lesson encouraged the class to step outside the church walls and work on homes of women without husbands in the community.

Christmas In Action is a 501(c)3 non-profit agency that, in partnership with the community, repairs homes of low-income elderly and/or disabled homeowners by putting Christian values and principles into action. Formerly called Christmas in April, Christmas In Action first came into thought in 1972 when Bobby Trimble was teaching his young men's Sunday school class at Alamo Heights Baptist Church from James 2:14-17. At first the repairs were small, such as repairing gates, furnaces, and evaporative coolers, but they soon developed into larger projects carried on throughout the year and into the summer of 1973.
1974 - The program officially took the name Christmas in April
1976 - Trimble set up the first CIA Board of Directors
1981 - Trimble was presented with the Governor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer service, which launched the program into national recognition
1982 - Trimble was nominated by the Texas Governor's wife for the President's Volunteer in Action Award, and was presented with the award by President Ronald Regan at the White House in April. CIA continued to receive inquiries about the program from cities throughout the country and letters wondering how to start a CIA program in their own city.
1988 - The national program Christmas in April, USA was formed
1995 - After new property acquisitions and program expansions, Christmas in April began meeting emergency needs throughout the year and was able to perform tasks such as repairing heaters, sewer and gas lines, hot water heaters, wheelchair ramps, roofs, etc.
2000 - Christmas in April, USA voted to change its name, and having differing opinions on the matter, the Midland Board of Directors voted to resign from the national program and officially change their name to Christmas In Action. Since its inception, Christmas In Action has completed 11,148 projects. More than 50,000 volunteers have given their time and talents to help the elderly and disabled in our community. Thousands have given unselfishly from their wallets so that others may live in safety, warmth, and independence.

You don't have to do something big to make a difference in our community 💛

At Christmas in Action, we see firsthand how much can happen when people give a little of their time, talents, or resources!

Whether it's helping with a project, donating materials, or supporting the work behind the scenes, every little bit helps us continue serving homeowners throughout Midland.

We're so thankful for everyone who plays a part in making this work possible. 🏠🔨

Did you know some wheelchair ramps need to be nearly 45 feet long?! 🏠🔨

Many mobile homes around Midland are raised on blocks, which can make getting in and out of the home difficult, especially for elderly residents.

At Christmas in Action, we build ramps that follow ADA guidelines for slope and handrail height, but we go a step further by making them 40 inches wide to better accommodate power wheelchairs and emergency personnel.

And here's something we're pretty proud of! After years of building ramps and improving our process, our team can now complete a ramp of this size in about 6 hours or less, with roughly $1,500 in materials.

What a blessing that in just a few hours, we can help make a HUGE difference in someone’s life! 💛💛

Sometimes a home just needs a little TLC!! 🏠💙

Some fresh paint, newly painted trim, and a few minor repairs made such a difference for this home!

We love getting to help our neighbors take care of the homes they love and give them a little refresh along the way.

Check out the before & after! 🔨✨

At Christmas in Action, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe and comfortable in the place they call home. 🏠

That's why we come alongside homeowners in our community to help with repairs and improvements they may not be able to tackle on their own.

But at the heart of it all, it's about so much more than fixing homes. It's about caring for people, building relationships, and reminding our neighbors that their community is here for them. It's about loving people like Jesus loves us.

That's what we're all about! 🔨💙

A few feet can make all the difference when it comes to accessibility. 🏠🔨

As mobility becomes an issue for many of the homeowners we serve, having a safe, properly built ramp is incredibly important.

This homeowner already had a ramp, but it was 12 feet too short, making the slope too steep and unsafe to use. For every inch of rise, a ramp generally needs about one foot of length to create a safe, accessible slope.

Sometimes our job isn't just building something new, it's taking what's already there and making it safer for the person who uses it every day!

Last week was a busy week for ramps! We had FIVE called in at once. We're grateful to be able to meet these needs and help our neighbors safely get in and out of their homes!! 💛

Before ➡️ After. We love seeing a home come back to life! 🏠💙

A fresh coat of paint and some much-needed repairs gave this home a whole new look and helped make it a safer, more comfortable place for the homeowner.

We're so thankful for the helping hands that make transformations like this possible! 🔨✨

You don't have to be a contractor or an expert to serve with Christmas in Action! 🔨

Some volunteers come with years of experience. Others show up ready to learn and lend a hand.

Either way, we have a place for you! Right now, we have a few small projects if you or your group would like to get involved!

We'd love to have you join us! 💙🏠

Did you know Christmas in Action serves our community year-round?!🏠🔨

While we love our big volunteer workdays in the Spring, the work doesn't stop there! Throughout the year, we continue helping local homeowners with projects that make their homes safer and more accessible.

The needs may look different from home to home, but the heart behind the work stays the same.

We are all about neighbors helping neighbors all year long! 💛

Our partnership with Midland Christian School began years ago, when students started serving alongside Christmas in Action by helping paint homes in our community. What started as a day of service has grown year after year!! 💛

Students have since had the opportunity to spend a full week learning hands-on skills like siding, windows, trim, painting, and more. And this year, we're excited to see that partnership take another step forward as Midland Christian starts a workshop class! 👏🔨

We're grateful to help provide tools for the class as students learn practical skills they can carry with them for years to come.

There's something special about teaching the next generation not only how to work with their hands, but how they can use those skills to serve others.

We're so grateful for you, MCS, and excited to see where this goes! 🙌

A huge thank you to Framing Square for helping us stock up on cement siding for next season! 🔨🏠

Framing Square has been a faithful supporter of Christmas in Action and our community for years, and we’re so grateful for their continued generosity.

We truly couldn’t do what we do without local companies who step up, give back, and help us serve homeowners throughout our community. Thank you for playing such an important role in what we do! 💛
