Christmas In Action, Inc.

The lesson encouraged the class to step outside the church walls and work on homes of women without husbands in the community.

Christmas In Action is a 501(c)3 non-profit agency that, in partnership with the community, repairs homes of low-income elderly and/or disabled homeowners by putting Christian values and principles into action. Formerly called Christmas in April, Christmas In Action first came into thought in 1972 when Bobby Trimble was teaching his young men's Sunday school class at Alamo Heights Baptist Church f

rom James 2:14-17. At first the repairs were small, such as repairing gates, furnaces, and evaporative coolers, but they soon developed into larger projects carried on throughout the year and into the summer of 1973.
1974 - The program officially took the name Christmas in April
1976 - Trimble set up the first CIA Board of Directors
1981 - Trimble was presented with the Governor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer service, which launched the program into national recognition
1982 - Trimble was nominated by the Texas Governor's wife for the President's Volunteer in Action Award, and was presented with the award by President Ronald Regan at the White House in April. CIA continued to receive inquiries about the program from cities throughout the country and letters wondering how to start a CIA program in their own city.
1988 - The national program Christmas in April, USA was formed
1995 - After new property acquisitions and program expansions, Christmas in April began meeting emergency needs throughout the year and was able to perform tasks such as repairing heaters, sewer and gas lines, hot water heaters, wheelchair ramps, roofs, etc.
2000 - Christmas in April, USA voted to change its name, and having differing opinions on the matter, the Midland Board of Directors voted to resign from the national program and officially change their name to Christmas In Action. Since its inception, Christmas In Action has completed 11,148 projects. More than 50,000 volunteers have given their time and talents to help the elderly and disabled in our community. Thousands have given unselfishly from their wallets so that others may live in safety, warmth, and independence.

While we love our big volunteer workdays in the Spring, the work doesn't stop there! Throughout the year, we continue helping local homeowners with projects that make their homes safer and more accessible.

The needs may look different from home to home, but the heart behind the work stays the same.

We are all about neighbors helping neighbors all year long! 💛

Our partnership with Midland Christian School began years ago, when students started serving alongside Christmas in Action by helping paint homes in our community. What started as a day of service has grown year after year!! 💛

Students have since had the opportunity to spend a full week learning hands-on skills like siding, windows, trim, painting, and more. And this year, we're excited to see that partnership take another step forward as Midland Christian starts a workshop class! 👏🔨

We're grateful to help provide tools for the class as students learn practical skills they can carry with them for years to come.

There's something special about teaching the next generation not only how to work with their hands, but how they can use those skills to serve others.

We're so grateful for you, MCS, and excited to see where this goes! 🙌

Kindness doesn't have to be complicated! Sometimes it's simply serving your neighbor, lending a hand, or showing up when someone needs help. 🫶

We're so thankful for a community that continues to show up and care for one another. It's a simple reminder that we ALL have something we can give and a way we can serve!

Just as Galatians 5:13 reminds us: "Serve one another humbly in love."

Service is always more meaningful when it's done together. 💙

Last week, members of First Christian Church came together to build a wheelchair ramp for one of their fellow church members, making their home safer and more accessible.

Did you know Christmas in Action can equip churches, businesses, and community groups to serve? We provide the tools, equipment, and training needed for projects of all sizes, from installing grab bars, shower wands, and shower chairs to building ramps and handrails.

Sometimes it's the smallest repairs that make the BIGGEST difference, giving someone greater independence, safety, and peace of mind in their everyday life.

It takes a lot of hands to make Christmas in Action possible, and lately we've been reminded just how incredible our volunteers are!! 💛
