There’s no place quite like the Permian Basin. 🖤

Operators around the world recognize the unique opportunities found in the Permian, but as Ovintiv CEO Brendan McCracken shared at PBPA’s 64th Annual Meeting, the region’s greatest strength is its people.

McCracken joined newly elected PBPA Chairman Marc Dingler for a fireside chat exploring the opportunities and challenges facing operators — and what makes the Permian such an important part of Ovintiv’s long-term success.

His message was clear: people are at the heart of the Permian’s success.

And we couldn’t agree more.

The Permian’s competitive advantage is built on more than its abundant natural resources. It’s built on more than a century of oil and gas expertise, multigenerational knowledge, innovation, hard work, and communities that have grown alongside the industry.

Spanning an area roughly the size of Minnesota and stretching across Texas and New Mexico, the Permian is unlike anywhere else in the world.

Ovintiv continues to recognize that its success is deeply connected to the communities where its employees live and work. A hometown perspective on the future of Texas energy. 🤠

PBPA was honored to welcome Railroad Commission of Texas Chairman Christi Craddick , a Midland native and longtime leader in Texas energy policy, to our 64th Annual Meeting.

Chairman Craddick shared an inside look at the work underway at the RRC — from modernizing agency technology and improving permitting to overseeing exploration and production, implementing legislative mandates, and addressing inactive and orphaned wells. The RRC continues its State Managed Plugging Program while advancing efforts to address inactive wells across Texas.

Chairman Craddick also discussed the Commission’s ongoing efforts to combat oilfield theft, an issue PBPA has worked closely on through the S.T.O.P. Theft Task Force alongside the RRC, law enforcement, and industry partners. The Commission continues to work with stakeholders to investigate and address petroleum theft across the state.

From agency modernization to well plugging, permitting, and theft prevention, the RRC plays a critical role in overseeing Texas’ oil and gas industry and supporting the safe and responsible development of the state’s natural resources.

We are grateful to Chairman Craddick for joining us in Midland and sharing her perspective on the work ahead. PBPA is proud to work alongside the RRC and our industry partners to address challenges, advance solutions, and support the communities that make the Permian Basin home.

Turning one of the Permian’s biggest challenges into an opportunity. 💧

The future of produced water was front and center at the PBPA Annual Meeting as our VP of Government Affairs led a conversation with three leaders working to advance solutions across the basin:

🔹 Jordan Lake, VP, Western Midstream

🔹 Robert Crain, EVP, Texas Pacific Water Resources

🔹 Jim Newman, EVP, Aquafortus Technologies

For the Permian Basin, the ability to safely, efficiently, and sustainably manage produced water is critical to the continued growth and vitality of our industry.

The panel explored the who, what, and where of produced-water management — from infrastructure and treatment to the regulatory framework needed to unlock new opportunities for this critical resource.

PBPA, our members, and other industry leaders have worked for years to advance the policies and regulations necessary to realize the full potential of produced water. There is still work to be done, but the innovation happening today is creating possibilities that could reshape how we think about water in the Permian.

Jordan, Robert, and Jim represent what makes the industry so special, and the incredible work it takes, not to mention investment, to innovate to solve today’s problems and create tomorrow’s opportunity.

Water is one of the most closely managed resources in Permian Basin operations.

In the most recent survey year, participating PBPA member companies reported a water recycle rate of roughly 83% — reflecting continued investment in water reuse infrastructure and a shared commitment to reducing freshwater demand.

Data, infrastructure, and the next chapter of Permian energy. ⚡

PBPA was pleased to welcome Dr. Ning Lin of the Bureau of Economic Geology (BEG) to Midland to share how BEG’s COMPASS research is helping better understand how to strategically site and connect the many components of the Permian Basin’s existing and future energy opportunities.

From natural gas and produced water to land, power, and infrastructure, understanding where these resources intersect is increasingly important as new energy opportunities take shape across the Permian and Texas.

One area generating significant interest is the growing demand from data centers, with developers looking for reliable, firm natural gas and power supplies. Permian Basin operators are increasingly exploring how the region’s abundant energy resources can help meet that demand.

Dr. Lin also addressed questions surrounding innovative energy opportunities on state lands, as well as research into underground natural gas storage and its potential role in managing supply and supporting reliability.

As the Permian continues to evolve, data and research will play an important role in understanding how we can put our region’s abundant natural resources to work in new and innovative ways.

A look at the opportunities ahead for America’s public lands. 🏞️

PBPA was honored to welcome Bill Groffy, Principal Deputy Director of the of Land Management (BLM), to our Annual Meeting in Midland for a conversation about the opportunities and priorities shaping the BLM — both today and for the years ahead.

Following a highly successful federal lease sale earlier this year, the BLM is anticipating another lease sale later this fall, with continued interest in opportunities across federal lands.

PDD Groffy also highlighted the BLM’s commitment to responsible stewardship of public lands while supporting continued domestic energy development.

We are grateful to PDD Groffy for joining us in Midland and sharing insight into the BLM’s work, its goals for the future, and the role federal lands play in America’s energy landscape.

Washington, D.C. meets Santa Fe. 🤝

PBPA President Ben Shepperd led an important conversation at our Annual Meeting on the challenges and opportunities facing Permian Basin operators — from Washington, D.C., to the New Mexico Roundhouse and across the communities where our industry lives and works.

Joining Ben were two formidable industry leaders: Edith Naegele, President & CEO of the Independent Petroleum Association of America - IPAA, and Missi Currier, President & CEO of the New Mexico Oil & Gas Association (NMOGA).

Both shared insights on their organizations’ work, the opportunities ahead, and what it will take to support a strong and resilient oil and gas industry across the Permian Basin and the United States.

Currier emphasized the importance of engagement and advocacy at the ballot box, particularly as New Mexico continues to navigate a complex political landscape for energy policy.

Naegele highlighted the importance of making the most of the current federal policy environment while working to advance durable, defensible, and sound policies that can stand the test of time — regardless of future changes in Washington.

At PBPA, we are proud to work alongside organizations like IPAA and NMOGA to advocate for the people and businesses that make the Permian Basin an essential part of our nation’s energy story.

The data shows it: Permian Basin operators are producing more energy with a lighter environmental footprint.

Flaring intensity is down roughly 77% since 2019, and methane intensity has fallen nearly 70% over the same period — real, measurable progress driven by member investment in capture infrastructure and emissions monitoring.
