Today, PBPA was proud to help facilitate a donation from Ovintiv to the Midland Fire Department in support of PFAS foam remediation efforts! 🚒

The Midland Fire Department is facing significant costs to properly dispose of Class B firefighting foam containing PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals,” and to clean out the fire engines carrying this foam. Following the FAA’s recent mandate requiring airports to transition away from PFAS-containing foam, Midland International Air & Space Port was among the first in Texas to make the change.

This issue is especially timely following last week’s tank battery fire in Midland, where PFAS foam was required to help extinguish the fire. Unfortunately, situations like this can also create substantial cleanup costs for site owners after the incident is over. Supporting the proactive replacement and disposal of PFAS foam now can help reduce future environmental impacts and avoid even greater remediation expenses down the road.

MFD is currently working to clean out approximately 20 fire engines, with costs reaching nearly $25,000 per truck.
