🌟 Neighboring Week Success Spotlight 🌟

Lori Hallberg hosted the Crescent Drive and Courts street party in her driveway during Neighboring Week. Road construction plans meant the group needed to get creative with the location, but the gathering still brought neighbors together.

With the help of the Celebration Fund, Lori prepared six different soups for neighbors to enjoy. About 30 neighbors attended, sharing food and conversation throughout the evening.

The relaxed atmosphere created a great opportunity for neighbors to reconnect and enjoy time together. ❤️

As we celebrate 30 years of the Midland Area Cultural Awareness Coalition, we're looking back at some of the milestones that helped shape our journey.

This Midland Daily News article from 2018 highlights an important chapter in our history. Not only was it the year the Cultural Awareness Committee officially became the Cultural Awareness Coalition, it also showcases one of our early Cultural Awareness Month celebrations.

That year's theme, "Sharing Our Stories: Migration, Home and Belonging," inspired educational programs, cultural events, creative expression, and community conversations that encouraged residents to learn from one another and celebrate the diverse experiences that make up our community.

Today, Cultural Awareness Month has evolved into our annual Global Diversity Month celebration, but the goal remains the same: creating opportunities for learning, connection, and belonging.

As one article quote, from Melissa Kesterson (2018 program officer at the Midland Area Community Foundation and staff liaison of the Cultural Awareness Coalition) reminds us, "If everybody feels good and welcome, you've got these connections and it leads to a more thriving community."

As we have for thirty years, we continue working toward that vision of an inclusive Midland where everyone feels they belong.

From The Visibility Project archives:

Episode 13 of The Visibility Project podcast features with Eric Krause & Sarah Weisbarth. This is a relatable conversation about working through and growing in truths (not opinions) about other’s experiences.

“It wasn’t that I refused alternate views, I just wasn’t exposed to them.” Eric shares how he learned very recently about expanding his view and position beyond what he learned or experienced in his own life.
