Who is Community Harvest? Say hello to the Executive Board! With help from their parents, these 8 kids (from 2 families) have been planning on how to best put this idea into action.
Both families moved to Midland in 2012 (one from Wisconsin, the other from New York) and over the years have picked apples in the fall from willing neighbors and strangers to make all-things-apple: apple pie, apple crisp, applesauce, dried apples, apple butter... if it can be made with apples, we have probably made it.
Our families wanted to find new ways to help our community. The thought came that if we could easily find bushels and bushels of apples for our own families, there must be a way to connect unused fruit with community needs.
If you have fruit trees you would be willing share, know of some on public land, or have a neighbor that might be interested, go here to enter our database. https://forms.gle/m24xnhFsHp4mnTpK6 We will contact you to get more information.
We will also be looking for volunteers to help care for trees throughout the season and pick fruit Aug-Oct. If you are interested in volunteering with us, fill out this form: https://forms.gle/nBqWEUKFxxdkpYNP6
We have partnered with Hidden Harvest of Saginaw, and all produce will be given to them to distribute to food pantries in the Tri-Cities area for families in need.
