**September 4, 1957: A Lesson in Courage, A Mission for Today**
On September 4, 1957, nine brave African American students, known as the Little Rock Nine, walked toward Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, fully aware that they would face hostility, intimidation, and resistance. Yet they understood something larger than themselves: education was worth fighting for.
These young students were not celebrities, politicians, or activists. They were children who carried the hopes of generations on their shoulders. Their courage demonstrated that access to education has never been guaranteed; it has been earned and protected by those willing to stand for equality and opportunity.
History teaches us that education has often been at the center of political and social struggles. When people are educated, they gain the power to think critically, participate in democracy, pursue economic opportunity, and shape their own futures. For this reason, efforts to limit educational opportunities have frequently been used to maintain inequality and restrict advancement for marginalized communities.
The March For Education Foundation stands on the shoulders of pioneers like the Little Rock Nine. Their journey reminds us why our mission remains so important today. We march, advocate, celebrate achievement, and invest in students because education is the great equalizer. We believe every child deserves access to quality learning opportunities, supportive communities, and the resources needed to reach their full potential.
As we honor the courage of the Little Rock Nine, we recommit ourselves to their unfinished work. Their walk toward a school building in 1957 became a march toward justice. Today, our march continues—not just for education, but for opportunity, equity, and the promise that every student can succeed.
**Join us on September 6 as we continue that march.** We invite students, families, educators, community leaders, and supporters to stand together in support of education and the future of our children. By participating, you become part of a legacy that recognizes the sacrifices made by those who came before us and the responsibility we share to create opportunities for the next generation.
