The Refinery gives back to the community in a big way
For the past eleven years, the Delaware City Refining Company (DCRC), has hosted a charity golf tournament to raise money to provide extra funding to the community. This year’s event raised a whopping $270,000. On Friday, September 11, 2026, that money was shared with twenty-two Delaware based nonprofits at their annual Beneficiary Ceremony, held at the Delaware City Fire Hall.
The twenty-two 2026 recipients include: 4 H Youth Development, Food Bank of Delaware, Blood Bank of Delmarva, Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids, DE, Community Housing & Empowerment Connections Inc. CHEC, JPF Memorial Foundation, DE Sunshine Foundation, Move 2 include, Delaware City Fire Department, Newark Boys & Girls Club, Delaware City Lions Club for the Delaware City Food Bank, Paralyzed Veterans of America - Colonial Chapter, Delaware City Rotary, Reedy Point Players, Delaware Junior Golf Scholarship Fund, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Delaware, DFSME Delaware Foundation for Science and Mathematics Education, American Legion Stahl Post #30 in honor of the Snook Family, Pancreatic Cancer Foundation in honor of Eric Elko, The Harvest Outreach People Project, Faith Deanna Johnson Foundation, and United Way Delaware and Salem.
The ceremony began with a tribute to honor the 9/11 victims and their families. The New Castle County Multijurisdictional Color Guard presented the colors, and a moment of silence was followed by taps presented by Carrow from the Citizens Hose Company of Smyrna.
According to DCRC General Manager, Michael Capone, “Hosting this event on the 25th Anniversary of 9/11, seemed fitting. This event helps us to remember that we are all in this together and we need to stand together to uplift and support our neighbors. That is what these local organizations do every day, and through their hard work, dedication and spirit, they make a huge impact on the communities they serve. We hope our donation will help with their mission.”
The DCRC Charity Golf Fundraiser is solely coordinated by the employees at the Refinery. They work throughout the year to secure sponsors and choose nonprofit beneficiaries. Each year there is a new set of recipients. The nonprofit organizations represent everything from the arts, education, emergency services, environment, veterans, and health and wellness. Most of the organizations are chosen by the employees whose lives have been touched by the services these nonprofits provide.
At the ceremony, each nonprofit gets a chance to share their story and their mission with Refinery employees and the businesses that sponsored the golf tournament. This year Delaware City Mayor Johnson, Deputy Mayor Dudlek, Councilwoman Dilliplane and Councilman Turner were also in attendance. According to Delaware City Mayor Johnson, “Sometimes with all the noise, we forget that the Refinery is more than just a business. The people who work there live in our community and when it comes to supporting the important things, they do more than just write a check, The Refinery employees from the top on down invest their own money, time and hearts into the community. They show up! I wish more people knew how much the Refinery and its employees do to help Delaware. This event is just one example of their generosity and commitment of being a good neighbor.”
