CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR DYSA ODP EAST REGION PLAYERS!

Delaware Youth Soccer Association is incredibly proud to announce that 17 of our own have been selected to the USYS Olympic Development Program East Region Team — one of the highest levels of player identification in youth soccer in the country.

These athletes represent years of hard work, dedication, and growth through our ODP program, and now they'll carry the Delaware crest onto a regional stage, competing against — and standing alongside — some of the best young talent on the East Coast.

The objective of our DE ODP Tryouts is for our staff to identify the top players in Delaware to be selected for our Winter Camp and future ODP Events! This is a great opportunity for players to showcase their ability in front of our Delaware ODP staff.

We are looking for players with a strong technical base, tactical understanding of the game, the ability to solve problems on the field, the capability of dealing with the stresses of the game through mental strength, and high levels of physical fitness.

Congratulations to Mark McKenzie on being Delaware’s first U.S. Men’s National Team Player selected to a World Cup Roster!
Mark played locally in Delaware and participated in the ODP program before going to the Philadelphia Union.

Congratulations to all of the teams that participated in the Mickey Wherry Spring Recreational Tournament!
Thank you to all of the players, coaches, families, referees, volunteers for making the event possible.
Thank you to Kent County Parks and Rec for being a great host.

Mickey Wherry was a dedicated individual that stepped up and volunteered to organize the Interclub Soccer League for DYSA. As an avid soccer fan, Mickey enjoyed watching, coaching, refereeing and being a part of an organization that would impact so many players today. Mr. Wherry also served as the Recreational Director for Kirkwood Soccer Club and was a committee member for the East Region President’s Cup.
Mickey lost his battle with amyloidosis in October, 2016. To keep Mr. Wherry’s legacy live on, Delaware Youth Soccer Association hosts a recreational tournament annually. Proceeds from this tournament are funneled into a scholarship in Mickey’s memory. This scholarship is awarded to an individual that exemplifies the qualities that Mr. Wherry stood for “Fair Play".
