Well, you may have noticed that it’s been rather warm around the Sorg lately. That’s because the moment summer arrived, our air conditioning went out.
We were incredibly fortunate to have the funds available to repair it—but it wasn’t cheap.
We know it can sometimes feel like we’re always asking for money. The truth is, when you’re caring for a 135-year-old opera house, everything is big, everything is expensive, and almost everything is old. We are working diligently to repair and update dated equipment whenever we can, while continuing the restoration work this beautiful building so desperately needs.
Even on our best day, it’s difficult. But we keep going because the Sorg matters—to us, to Middletown, and to everyone who has ever walked through her doors and felt the magic inside.
We could never do this alone. To our sponsors, volunteers, donors, board members, community partners, patrons, and everyone who continues to believe in the Sorg: thank you. Your time, generosity, encouragement, and faith in our mission mean more than we could ever fully express.

Our world is a little less bright today with the passing of the incomparable Dolly Parton.
Dolly was so much more than a country music legend. She was a storyteller, a dreamer, a philanthropist, and a shining example of kindness, grace, humor, and generosity. Her songs became the soundtrack to our lives, and her beautiful spirit brought people together across generations.
She taught us to be proud of where we came from, to dream big, to laugh often, and to always leave the world a little better than we found it.
The music may sound a little sadder today, but Dolly’s light will never truly fade. Thank you for the songs, the laughter, the love, and the countless lives you touched.

Rest peacefully, Dolly. We will always love you. 🦋

Get ready Middletown! The Sorg Opera House’s annual October tradition continues!

Night of the Living Dead is one of the most enduring American films of the 20th Century. On Thursday, October 15th, the 1968 zombie classic is coming to the Sorg, for one night only. Night of the Living Dead set the tone for a brand new genre of horror that still resonates today… here is an opportunity to see the original masterpiece on the big screen!

The event serves as a capstone experience for students at Butler Tech in which students plan, promote and host the screening, creating an authentic event that connects literature, film, local history, and the wider Middletown community.

🚨 Trashley strikes again! 🚨

Hide your kids, hide your wife—and lock your dumpsters!
We have to admit, Trashley is sporting a fancy new hat and a shiny new set of wheels. The makeover is cute, but we’d still much rather she pack up her mess and keep on rolling right out of town.
Our volunteers, board members, friends, families, neighbors, and fellow downtown businesses work incredibly hard every day to make Middletown cleaner, safer, and more welcoming. They give their time, energy, and even their own money because they believe in this community. When someone dumps trash or leaves a mess behind, it creates unnecessary work for the very people who are already doing everything they can to make our city better.
Downtown Middletown is not your personal dumping ground.
So, Trashley, while we appreciate the new accessories, your welcome has officially worn out. Gather your belongings, load up your wheels, straighten that fancy hat, and keep on moving. We’re busy building something special here, and we don’t have time to keep cleaning up after you.

Do better. Be better. Middletown deserves better. 👋🗑️

Sometimes things change—things we don’t necessarily have control over. I was recently talking with a member of a band whose performance plans were changing, and he said to me, “Well, there’s not really anything going on in Middletown anyway.”

I paused.

He truly has no idea what he’s talking about.

Last night, Def Leggend took the stage at the Sorg Opera House, and they absolutely brought the heat to Middletown. They were talented, professional, solid musicians who gave us one incredible night of rock and roll. I’m so glad they came, I sincerely hope they return, and I’m grateful to everyone who showed up and supported them.

As Board President, I see firsthand how hard people throughout Middletown work to create something meaningful here. There is music. There is art. There is history. There is community—and there are people working every single day to make our city stronger and give others a reason to visit, stay, and believe in its future.

To the naysayers: come see what we’re all about. Walk through our doors, take a seat, and experience the talent, energy, and heart filling this beautiful old theater.

There is plenty going on in Middletown—and we’re just getting started. ❤️
