At the early age of four, she began taking piano lessons and never stopped learning. We now know she was an accomplished pianist and vocalist having been trained by some of the greatest instructors possible, J. Jay Flippin, and many others. At the early age of 12, she knew God was calling her to be a pastor’s wife. All she ever aspired to be was a supportive wife, mother, and friend. She served wi
th her Pastor Husband, Mitch Burch, in these five great churches over thirty-six years: Jones Ave Church of God,
Oak Hill, WV; Morehead First Church of God, Morehead, KY; Dayspring Church, Cincinnati, OH; First Church of God, Vancouver, WA; and the Towne Blvd. Church of God, Middletown, OH. In every church, she served as an elegant, articulate, and committed leader as the First Lady of the House. She is admired and remembered with great honor and respect in every church she served. A Godly legacy is about influence. Shelly was committed to being the best she could be in every area of her life. She was often described as, “An accomplished wife, mother, Nana, musician, and Christian leader.” Shelly passed her passion for Jesus, the church, family, and music to any who would receive. She intentionally influenced her children and her grandchildren who are following her example and continuing the Godly legacy of her life. Today, Shelly lives on not only in our memory but in real ways. Her influence continues to inspire thousands of people to worship Jesus through music and various expressions of the arts. Thank you for helping us keep her legacy alive and celebrate her home with Jesus and all who have gone before her.
