As part of her year of service, Miss Virginia makes personal appearances to promote local businesses, charities and events. These appearances are available to your organization and can have a positive impact on the attendance, media coverage and of course overall experience of your attendees. Appearances include—pictures with guests, signing autograph cards, networking with attendees, keynote speaking, vocal performances, and leading activities for younger attendees. She also serves as the ABC Spokesperson by promoting healthy choices and substance abuse prevention to students in Virginia’s elementary schools as part of Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority’s Miss Virginia School Tour program. Happy birthday to Alice Gordon!

Alice’s journey with Miss Virginia began years ago as a local director, and today, she continues to serve faithfully as a valued member of our Advisory Board. Her commitment to this organization is evident in everything she does.

Throughout the year, Alice spearheads our delegate recruiting efforts, helping us discover and welcome talented young women who have the potential to make a difference. During competition week, she takes on the important responsibility of Delegate Services, making sure our young ladies are cared for, supported and have what they need to succeed.

Alice is a longtime supporter of both Miss Virginia and Miss America, but what makes her truly special is the beautiful heart she shares with everyone around her. She is kind, generous, selfless and always willing to give more than 100% to the organization she loves.

Her faith leads her life, and she walks in that faith each and every day — serving others with grace, compassion and a genuine desire to make a difference.

Today, we celebrate a truly extraordinary woman and one of the most treasured members of the Miss Virginia Opportunity family — Toni McLawhorn!

For more than 40 years, Toni has faithfully served the Miss Virginia Organization, beginning with her work with Miss Roanoke Valley and continuing through numerous leadership roles at the state level. Today, we are especially grateful for her service as our Judges Chairperson, a role she fulfills with the professionalism, wisdom and integrity that have defined her remarkable volunteer service.

But what makes Toni so special goes far beyond her many years of service or the titles she has held. Toni leads through servant leadership. She is kind, thoughtful, dependable and selfless, always willing to step in, lend a hand, encourage others and do whatever is needed to make the organization — and the people within it — better.

She truly has a heart of gold. ❤️

Learn How to Judge a Miss Virginia Preliminary!

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a judge for a local Miss Virginia preliminary competition? Now is your chance to learn!

Join us Saturday, October 10 from 1:30–3:30 p.m. in Roanoke, Virginia, for a Judges Orientation & Seminar designed for anyone interested in learning more about serving as a qualified judge for a local Miss Virginia competition.

We’ll cover the judging process, scoring, criteria, expectations and what makes an effective and impartial judge.

Whether you’re considering judging for the first time or simply want to learn more about the Miss Virginia Opportunity, we’d love to have you join us!

Wishing a happy and joyful birthday celebration to our Head of Miss Virginia Field Operations, Sue Cox!

Sue is a former Miss Richmond who was a hugely successful local preliminary director with her husband, Buddy, for many years before joining the Miss Virginia Opportunity in 2024.

Sue and Buddy manage local competition operations across the state with Richard Kibler Debbie Moulse. They guide the local directors through the Miss America policies and procedures and monitor the local competitions.

A former executive assistant and musician, Sue's "eye" for proofreading copy and "ear"' for talent and interview prep helps nurture our young ladies to become the best communicators and performers that they can be.

Sue, thank you for your tireless dedication to Miss Virginia. Wishing you all the best for a great celebration and an even greater year to come!

A very special congratulations to Casey Hollins and the entire Miss Louisa Organization on being named the first-ever Virginia recipient of the National Local Leadership Award, presented this weekend in West Palm Beach during Miss America!

This incredible honor is a testament to the tireless work, dedication, and passion Casey and the Miss Louisa Organization have demonstrated in promoting success, scholarship, service, and sisterhood throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia — and far beyond.

Their commitment to the Miss America and Miss Virginia organizations represents everything that makes this program so meaningful. Through their leadership, they continue to support and empower women, create opportunities, encourage personal growth, and elevate young women to become the very best versions of themselves.

Casey and the Miss Louisa Scholarship Organization have shown that local leadership can have a national impact. Their dedication to the women they serve, to the Miss America Opportunity, and to the values of this organization is truly inspiring.
