American Legion Canal Post 25

American Legion Canal Post 25 The American Legion is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization. General Membership meetings are on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.

Hope to see old and new faces! The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization. Focusing on service to veterans, service members and communities, the Legion evolved from a group of war-weary veterans of World War I into one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the United States. Membership swiftly grew to over 1 million, and local posts sprang up a

cross the country. Today, membership stands at over 2.4 million in 14,000 posts worldwide. The posts are organized into 55 departments: one each for the 50 states, along with the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico and the Philippines. Over the years, the Legion has influenced considerable social change in America, won hundreds of benefits for veterans and produced many important programs for children and youth.

Today the Commander participated in the 2026 Veterans Lobby Day at Legislative Hall. The mission: learn and understand what type of legislation is being introduced, worked, and voted on that supports Veteran causes; talk with legislators within the MOT area, and of course advocate on our behalf for state grants to help us build our post home.
Commander Strawbridge stopped in the offices of State Representative Kevin Hensley, Rep. Sherae'a "Rae" Moore, Sen. Stephanie Hansen, and Nicole Poore and was able to share our mission and let them know they have a Veteran Service Organization in their backyard and we’re here to help.
Bonus! Got to chat with Senator Poore in between caucus and voting!
