And it's a wrap!! Another year of union solidarity cookouts has concluded, thanks to the dedication of the hardworking union members who do it all! The food was spectacular! The summer tunes, vibes and weather were great all summer long. We raised so much money for our 50/50 raffles and had an awesome raffle prize donated for a brewery tour. Each year our cookouts get better and better because of the generosity and dedication of our Union members who not only show every single day for the state and municipalities but for one another as well!! Stay Union strong!!

This MOU agreement provides meaningful coverage and peace of mind for workers and their families. It also reflects what we can achieve when we work together—CTDOT, CEUI, and our administration—to stand up for those who serve our state. As we move forward, we do so in honor of Andrew DiDomenico and with a continued commitment to the safety of every worker on our roads.” stated President Carl Chisem of Local 511.

Governor Ned Lamont today joined the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) and the Connecticut Employees Union Independent (CEUI) to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishing uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage for CTDOT workers, extending critical protections to the men and women who maintain Connecticut's roads and highways.

The agreement provides up to $1 million in coverage per person for CTDOT employees injured by uninsured or underinsured drivers while performing their duties, including when workers are outside their assigned vehicles in active work zones. The coverage mirrors protections in place for State Police officers and takes effect January 1, 2027.

Governor Lamont signed the MOU alongside President Carl Chisem and highway workers at the CTDOT maintenance facility in Farmington.

Every year our members come together across each district to rest after a long hard year of service across all state agencies. Our members are vital to the residents of CT. They provide clean and well maintained state buildings, keep our highways and bridges plowed, cleaned, mowed and maintained to travel across safely. Another great day to celebrate union solidarity! Good food, good vibes and good tunes!

Today is a great to launch the expansion of the Work Zone Speed Camera Program. The evidence speaks for itself The Work Zone Speed Camera program launched as a pilot in 2023. Speed cameras were placed in active work zones — and the results spoke for themselves. Speeding dropped by up to 18%. Drivers going 15 miles per hour or more over the limit — the truly dangerous ones — that number dropped by more than 50%.
It took many years to launch this program, and I am so proud of the state legislature, the DOT and the Governor for supporting the safety of our worker. Connecticut Department of Transportation
