St. Vincent de Paul Middletown

St. Vincent de Paul Middletown Offering hope by providing basic needs services across Middletown and beyond to those struggling with housing, income, and/or food insecurity. St.

Vincent de Paul Middletown has more than a 40-year history of meeting needs and offering hope. A community ministry of the Diocese of Norwich by Sisters of Mercy Pat McKeon and Caroline Beaudoin, St. Vincent De Paul was “the place” on Main Street in Middletown where people in need could come for a meal, groceries, clothing, shelter and financial assistance. The core ministries --Soup Kitchen, open

ed in 1980, Amazing Grace Food Pantry since 2002, Community Assistance since 1999 and Supportive Housing since 1996--have remained the same over the years and are the essence of what we do. We serve over 95,000 nutritious meals each year through our community Soup Kitchen. We also connect hundreds of people to basic support services and emergency funds through our Community Assistance Program, by collaborating with many community partners. Our Amazing Grace Food Pantry is currently feeding more than 970 families per month and our Supportive Housing Program allows 79 formerly, chronically homeless individuals with disabilities and addiction to live successfully in their own apartments.

It's hard to believe that it's already back-to-school season! Unfortunately, between ongoing inflation and the rising cost of living, some families will simply not be able to afford school supplies, new clothes, backpacks, and other new school year expenses for their children.

SVDM hopes to fill that gap by offering Walmart gift cards to local families in need. If you are interested in helping, gift cards can be dropped off at our main site (617 Main Street) or mailed to the following address:

St. Vincent's Commons may still be under construction, but that doesn't mean we can't look forward to decorating our new space! That's why we ordered this gorgeous wood-relief carving of St. Vincent for our new courtyard. We're very thankful to Jeff Davis of Hollyrock Artworks for capturing our namesake so vividly!

We are amazed by the generosity and kindness of our friends at the Root Center for Advanced Recovery. Yesterday, we received a $25,000 gift from them to help fund our Supportive Housing program! It has been an incredibly difficult year for nonprofits, so we are especially moved by this benevolent gesture from one of our most dedicated community partners. We simply can't thank them enough!

We had a wonderful time meeting with our friends Brian and Bill from Middlesex United Way the other day! MUW has been a longstanding partner of SVDM, and we are so thankful for their generosity over the years. It's amazing what we can accomplish when we all come together to support our shared community!

Sending a big thank you to Maty, Emily, and the entire team at St. Vincent de Paul Middletown and the Amazing Grace Food Pantry for all the incredible work they are doing in the community.

Today, we had a chance to visit with them and learn more about their mission and the positive impact they're making in the lives of so many individuals across Middlesex County and beyond.

ICYMI: We premiered our newest video, "Strengthening the Safety Net," at Open Your Heart just a few weeks ago. This video documents the various challenges our agency faced in the past year, how we responded to those barriers, and how our staff and clients continue to stay hopeful in the midst of uncertainty.

If you couldn't join us at the event, the video is now posted on SVDM's YouTube channel. Feel free to check it out below!

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

As you may know, summer is a time of great need across SVDM's programs. We always see a steady increase in utilization of our Soup Kitchen, and more families depend on groceries from Amazing Grace to feed their children while school is out of session. Additionally, many of our chronically homeless clients spend more time outdoors--with many camping in densely wooded areas.

There are several ways in which you can help our agency ensure that our clients' needs are met this summer. Click below to see the most pressing needs across our different programs!

Summer is officially here--which means that SVDM's Occupational Therapy program is in full swing! OT is one of our most transformative programs, with many clients going on to secure housing, full-time employment, and long-term recovery. Something as simple as a fishing trip or game of pool can be the first step on the path to a better life. We're so grateful to this year's class of OT students at Quinnipiac University for going above and beyond for our clients and helping them recognize that change is possible!

When our communities come together for good, we can create real change.

We would like to thank everyone who supported our Open Your Heart annual fundraising event to raise critical resources to help us strengthen our local community’s safety net. Between ticket sales, sponsorships, advertisements, auction bids, and Giving Trees, our community worked together to raise nearly $54,000 for a great cause!

100 percent of profits from Open Your Heart will be invested in our mission to meet needs and offer hope. Because of generous supporters like you, more people in our community will have access to nutritious meals, fresh groceries, case management support, treatment for substance use disorder, mental health services, community assistance, shelter, and housing. Thank you for doing your part to strengthen the safety net by enabling us to continue scaling our services to meet the needs of our fellow community members!
