The Rockfall Foundation

The Rockfall Foundation The Rockfall Foundation promotes and supports environmental education and conservation in the Lower Connecticut River Valley.

Since 1972, Rockfall has awarded grants each year to organizations, schools and municipalities, with the majority of grants supporting environmental education and conservation initiatives involving children in elementary grades through high school. Our “Green Grants” projects stress hands-on learning and exploration, through gardening and hiking, environmental after-school and summer programs, and

in-classroom science enrichment experiences. This reflects the foundation’s conviction that creative, grassroots initiatives and collaborations can go far to offset the widespread problem of children growing up with “nature deficit disorder.” Direct, personal experiences in childhood and youth, often translate into life-long appreciation and care for our natural world. Rockfall also sponsors educational programs and symposia, and continues to hold and manage open space property in the county. It is headquartered in Middletown in the historic deKoven House Community Center on Washington Street, which it maintains and operates as a community center with meeting rooms and office space for locally-based environmental groups.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Invasive Plant Removal Workshop! We couldn’t have asked for a better group of volunteers (or better weather).

It was inspiring to see so many people enthusiastically jump in and work together to helping protect our local forest. Every invasive plant removed makes a difference for the health of our native ecosystems.

We are so grateful for your hard work, teamwork, and commitment to conservation!

Have you seen how beautiful the DeKoven House Community Center yard looks with all the trees and shrubs in bloom?! 🌸🌺

We are in love!! 😍

We learned so much about invasive plants at our workshop last weekend! Rockfall Board President Jen give a very informative presentation on the types of plants to keep an eye out for and taught us how to properly remove them. Then we spent time practicing what we learned at the Rockfall Forest, adjacent to Wadsworth State Parks.

These projects may seem small, but they have a lasting environmental impact for all our native species of plants and animals.

We are so appreciative if everyone who joined us that morning, and we are looking forward to our next invasive workshop in the fall!!

Calling all bird watchers! 🐦🌿

Join us for a spring bird walk through a variety of habitats as we search for migrating songbirds and breeding resident species at Haddam Meadows State Park! From forested swamps and scrub/shrub wetlands to open meadows, ponds, and freshwater tidal marshes, this guided 2-mile loop with Rockfall Board Member Anthony Zemba offers incredible opportunities to spot and hear birds in one of the season’s most active migration periods.

Whether you’re an experienced birder or just want to spent time outdoors with fellow bird enthusiasts, you won’t want to miss this chance to explore these ecosystems and see what’s flying through!
