This World Mental Health Day 2026, let’s break the stigma that keeps people struggling in silence.

You don’t have to “look like” you are struggling to deserve support, and you don’t have to wait until you’re overwhelmed to ask for help.

✋Prevention starts with small conversations…

Talk with your teen about an exit plan before they head out. If alcohol or substances shows up or a situation feels uncomfortable, knowing what to do can make leaving easier.

Start with a few simple questions:

•What could you say when you want to leave?

•Who will you call or text for a ride?

•What’s our backup plan if I don’t answer?

•Should we choose a code word so you can ask for help discreetly?

Small choices can make a big difference in preventing underage drinking and building safer, healthier communities.

The second cycle of the Teen Mental Health First Aid program, sponsored by the MPC, kicked off this morning at MHS!

Twenty-nine students in grades 9–12 will participate in this four-session training, building the knowledge and skills needed to recognize when a peer may be experiencing a mental health challenge and how to connect them with appropriate support.
We are grateful to Bradley Hospital’s State Mental Health First Aid Coordinator, Kim LaFountain, for facilitating this important training.

Kratom is often marketed as a natural product, but it can have stimulant-like and opioid-like effects. It may lead to dependence, withdrawal, and serious health risks, particularly with high-potency products or when combined with other substances.

In light of the tragic deaths of two young people reportedly connected to kratom, this conversation will create space for education, awareness, and prevention. Please
