Got a Truck? Put it to good use and Join our Food Rescue Team!

Each week ODB rescues between 8,000 and 10,000 pounds of food from local supermarkets and farms. There are 12 pick-ups a week that range from 200 to 1,500 lbs, If you have a truck, some free time and come good energy, think about joining our team! While many of the pick-ups are on weekdays, we do have some on Saturday and Sunday. To volunteer, go to https://wl.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E356246&id=1 and be sure to check "Picking Up Donated Food" under "Volunteer Assignment Wishes".

In July Our Daily Bread served 5879 meals (fourth most ever) and shared 42,727 pounds of food (most ever) through our Outdoor Market and our food giveaways. Last Monday morning our Executive Director, Brian, spent about 30 minutes outside tidying up the front of the building. In that half hour 15 cars drove in to pick up food. It struck Brian that as our capacity to distribute food increases the demand will always increase as well. ODB has become better known in the last few years and more and more people are visiting. That is a good thing and and we need more and more help to respond to the need. Our community has always responded so far, but like the bellies we feed, we always need more. Thank you for all your support. We are very grateful.

Our service groups always come through for us. This week Baymont Farms kicked off the week serving Monday's dinner (see picture below) . Tuesday St. Paul's UMC sponsored, cooked and served lunch with a great team. They were followed Tuesday night by the Gospel Life Church team who sponsored, cooked and served dinner. Wednesday was an ODB night and we appreciate everyone's help. Thursday Silver Maple Farm Cooked and Served lunch and Odessa National Community took care of dinner sponsoring, cooking a serving dinner. Friday's dinner was sponsored by Toya and Otis Horton and prepped and served by our ODB team. On Friday, we had 80 guests join us for our weekly giveaway in the dining room. Another amazing morning with our guests and volunteers. Friday giveaways are always a great way to end the week.

Last May Nothing Bundt Cakes did a fundraiser for us where we got a portion of the sales for the day. And boy what a day! They gave us a check for $690.09! The owner and manager of Nothing Bundt Cakes have been a great supporter of Our Daily Bread, donating individual bundt cakes to us and, if you come to our Cabaret for a Cause, you will get one of their cakes! We are so pleased to have partners like Nothing Bundt Cakes, and if you haven't had one, they are gooooood!

Last Friday, we had our largest giveaway ever in the dining room. We had 86 guests stop by to shop to share in our usual bounty of food. We had over 25 volunteers pitch in to pick up and sort the food, flip the ODB store back to the ODB dining room and most importantly welcome and serve our guests. ODB is the best place in town to be on Friday mornings.
