Congratulations to our former President on ten years at DSEA!

Congratulations to Vickie Caprinolo on 10 years with DSEA!

A University of Delaware graduate, Vickie began her career in public education as a social studies and English teacher at Louis L. Redding Middle School in the Appoquinimink School District, where she taught for 16 years.

Vickie also got involved in our union, first as an association representative, then as a member of the Appoquinimink Education Association executive board, and finally as AEA President for 4 years.

Vickie was then hired to her current position at DSEA, where she serves as the UniServ Director for the Red Clay Education Association, the Red Clay Paraprofessional Association, the Christina Secretaries Association, and Odyssey Charter School Education Association, which she helped organize in 2018.

Today, Vickie and her husband live in Cecil County, Maryland, with their son and two dogs. This year, the couple will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.

“As a teacher, I learned the importance of having a voice and standing together,” Vickie said. “I’m incredibly honored to now have a job where I can help others find their voice and support each other. I love working with my DSEA family and I’m excited to continue this work together.”

AEA President, Steve Byers and AEA Secretary, Emily Miller recently presented at the 2026 Delaware State Education Association Lead and Learn Conference at the University of Delaware. They presented on “Beyond Us vs Them: Reimagining Union-District Collaboration Through Collective Bargaining.” The keynote address was given by Delaware Secretary of Education, Cindy Marten.

The Appoquinimink Education Association applauds the four members of the Appoquinimink Board of Education, Dr. Tashiba Graham, Tim Higgins, Norm Abrams, and Britney Mumford who voted to ensure every student has access to the resources and educational opportunities they deserve. Their vote reflects a commitment to investing in our students, supporting our educators, and strengthening our public schools. We thank them for putting children first and recognizing that strong schools build strong communities. We hope that those in our community who are concerned with education funding will support the public education funding reforms that will bring more equitable funding to the Appoquinimink School District.
