OUR MISSION: To foster camaraderie among

The VFW traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American War (1898) and the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) founded local organizations to secure rights and benefits for their service: Many arrived home wounded or sick. There was no medical care or veterans' pension for them, and they were left to care for themselves. In their misery, some of these veterans banded together and formed organizations with what would become known as the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. After chapters were formed in Ohio, Colorado and Pennsylvania, the movement quickly gained momentum. By 1915, membership grew to 5,000; by 1936, membership was almost 200,000. Since then, the VFW's voice had been instrumental in establishing the Veterans Administration, creating a GI Bill for the 20th century, the development of the national cemetery system and the fight for compensation for Vietnam vets exposed to Agent Orange and for veterans diagnosed with Gulf War Syndrome. In 2008, VFW won a long-fought victory with the passing of a GI Bill for the 21st Century, giving expanded educational benefits to America's active-duty service members, and members of the Guard and Reserves, fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. The VFW also has fought for improving VA medical centers services for women veterans. Besides helping fund the creation of the Vietnam, Korean War, World War II and Women in Military Service memorials, the VFW in 2005 became the first veterans' organization to contribute to building the new Disabled Veterans for Life Memorial, which opened in November 2010. Annually, the nearly 1.7 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliaries contribute more than 8.6 million hours of volunteerism in the community, including participation in Make A Difference Day and National Volunteer Week.

🇺🇸⭐ GOLD STAR MOTHERS & FAMILIES DAY ⭐🇺🇸
Sunday, September 27, 2026

Today, we pause to honor the mothers and families who carry the lifelong legacy of a loved one who gave their life while serving our nation.

⭐ THE HISTORY OF THE GOLD STAR

The tradition of the Gold Star dates back to World War I. Families displayed service flags in their windows to show that a loved one was serving. A blue star represented a family member serving in the military. When that service member died, the blue star was replaced or covered by a gold star, signifying the family’s tremendous loss.

Today, the Gold Star represents much more than a symbol. It represents love, sacrifice, loss, remembrance, and an enduring commitment to never forget.

Behind every Gold Star is a story.
Behind every Gold Star is a family.
Behind every Gold Star is a life that mattered.

Today, we remember the fallen and stand beside the mothers, fathers, spouses, children, siblings, and families who continue to carry their legacy.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸⭐

Twenty-five years after September 11, we pause to remember those we lost, honor those who responded, and reflect on the enduring strength of our nation.

09/11/2026

Today, we remember and honor the lives forever changed on September 11, 2001.

We remember those who lost their lives, the first responders who ran toward danger without hesitation, and the countless men and women who were inspired to serve our country in the years that followed.

We also honor the incredible working dogs who served alongside their handlers, searching through the rubble and helping in the rescue. Their service is a powerful reminder of the extraordinary bond between working dogs and the people who rely on them.

At Custom Canines, veterans and first responders hold a very special place in our hearts. We are reminded every day of what service, sacrifice, and resilience look like, and we are grateful for the opportunity to give back to those who have given so much.

We remember every day, but today, we pay our respects to the heroes whose courage will never be forgotten.

Never forget. 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families forever changed, and the first responders, service members, and everyday Americans who answered with courage and compassion.

Twenty-five years later, we honor their memory and the spirit of service that followed.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸
