Friends of Pope Farm Conservancy

Friends of Pope Farm Conservancy The Friends of Pope Farm Conservancy (FOPFC) is a new organization that was formed in the spring of 2013.

FOPFC was established to enhance the educational opportunities at Pope Farm Conservancy, preserve the balance of its wildlife habitat and historical features, and protect its scenic landscapes and tranquility for the enjoyment of the public. FOPFC is an incorporated entity which is completely separate from the Town of Middleton. The purpose of the FOPFC is to enhance educational opportunities at P

FC, preserve the balance of its wildlife habitat and historical features, and protect its scenic landscapes and tranquility for the enjoyment of the public. The conservancy is owned by the Town of Middleton, and the FOPFC will offer you many volunteer opportunities to enhance and enjoy this breathtaking conservancy. We welcome you to join us and be a part of our natural community. Our organization was formed for the following purposes:

- Advance and facilitate educational opportunities and interpretive programming in the Pope Farm Conservancy for students and the general public.
- Preserve the balance of wildlife habitat, historic, geologic, agricultural, environmental, and scenic features of the Pope Farm Conservancy.
- Protect natural landscapes and grass trails, wildlife and their habitat, and the general public’s tranquil enjoyment of the Pope Farm Conservancy as a passive conservancy free from commercial activity; motorized vehicles and bicycles; dogs; and organized sports that require athletic fields or open space.
- Through volunteer activities, support the Town of Middleton in the maintenance, improvement and general enrichment of the Pope Farm Conservancy as an educational and community asset.
- Solicit gifts, funds, endowments, and bequests to support these purposes.

Just a friendly reminder: Pope Farm Conservancy is open from sunrise to sunset year-round. The Blackhawk Parking lot off Blackhawk Road is typically closed through the winter months, so we recommend parking in the lower parking area off Old Sauk Road.

Visitors are welcome to come and enjoy winter activities such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, and sledding. If the trails are groomed, please walk off to the side of the trail so it remains intact for the cross-country skiers. Thank you for your cooperation!

Wishing you a safe and happy holiday season! ❄️

REMINDER: Join us at Pope Farm Conservancy on (TOMORROW) Tuesday, July 1st, at 2:00PM for our “Birthdays, Blooms and Poetry of the Prairie” Walk with Naturalist and Poet Kathy Miner.

This will be a 1.5-hour guided tour of the Pope Farm Conservancy restored prairies. Free and open to the public.

To conservationist and teacher Aldo Leopold, July was the month of a very special prairie birthday. On this walk we'll look for the plant he celebrated among the 100+ species blooming in our prairies and learn about ways homeowners can benefit by adding native plants to their landscaping. Enjoy some prose and poetry along the path.

Hope you can join us for this special tour with Kathy Miner!

Kathy has been a naturalist with the UW-Madison Arboretum since the last century. She's educated as a teacher and librarian but really prefers being outdoors. A published poet, she tries to get art and science to shake hands as often as possible. Some of her best friends have been trees, and most of her favorite toys have been words.
